THIS WORKED. I removed both 510 resistors. Put fresh solder on circuit board contacts and then solder the 510s back on. Doesnt look pretty but ...

Old solder is contaminated or defective.

My compass was out of calibration after install. I pressed and held the only button for 5 seconds and it recalaibated North.

Pulled it and soldered it, didn't work. Pulled it again and soldered again, didn't work. Left it for another day. Tried it when driving the next day and it came on!

    :yay:

Super Fix, I pulled it down and the same 510 resistor was broke on one side as pictured. Now I just need to get some solder to reconnect it. At dealership it's highway robbery to have them fix it. I don't think so ! ! !Lifetime supply of beers for Secret Squirrel ! ! ! THANKS SQUIRREL :):infantry: Toyota Service Depts.

Put a Craigslist ad up offering to fix the Thermo/Compass for $30. Donate $5 to TWorld and give the chump this link.

Read many of your forum comments. I checked and I have the temperature probe located on the front of my radiator. I would be interested in anyone who would have the temp/compass console for sale. It looks like it shouldn't be too hard to install.

Be sure not to purchase one from a 2008 or older. The way that the temp signal is sent to the overhead console changed in 2009.

As far as I know, 2009/10/11 all use the same method.

Temp/Compass dies a month ago. Toyota dealer quoted me $427 to fix. Thanks to this post, it only cost me $12 (didn't have a solder gun or a friend who had one) Your instructions were spot on! Temp and compass back online. Thanks again!!!!:)

How many miles do your tacos have on them where the fix worked on the overhead compass/temp worked?? I have an 07 with 81,000 and mine doesn't work either, just bought it and it was the only thing that didn't work. Could this be the problem, I;m thinking yes but wanted to make sure before I disassemble..... Thinking mine has this exact problem, or at least i hope so after reading all posts that it worked on, save $900, and spend $.10, I Love that, leaves more money for more mods....

I have had the same proble with my 05 taco temp display. only i have resoudered all the 510's and nothing it still does not work. Is there a sensor behind the grille that could have gone bad? Not too sure on this one

Thanks for a great thread. Mine suddenly quit working last weekend but fortunately I remembered reading your thread a few months ago. Your disassembly instructions were spot on and I found that opposite ends of both 510 ohms surface mount resistors had lifted. It wasn't obvious, I had to lift them with a blade to expose the problem. Resoldered them and it works great. With your help, the whole job took about 15 minutes. Thanks

Awesome post...saved me having to take it to Toyota to have my ECP take care of it.

    Cheers.
