I just did this process to my 07 Tacoma and it worked great! Thank you for posting up such a thorough write up. Both of the resistors were unsoldered from the board. One resistor detached completely from the board. I soldered both ends of both resistors to the board. Thanks again.

Step 1 DIY - re mounted the existing 510's. It worked for a while then went dead again.
Step 2 DIY - went with the axial lead resistors that Silconmethod has recomended. No luck, something else must have come loose or fried.
Step 3 - Sending my board to Greg at Siliconmethod today!

Thank you for such detailed instructions with the photos!!! I stopped and bought a soldering iron on my way home from work today and in about 15 minutes those beautiful orange lights above my head were lit back up!! I really appreciate your efforts - it's easy to do everyone!!! :)

I am about to do this repair and I was just wondering how do you go about reseting it once you finish so it can read the direction correctly?

Hey guys. First timer here - first post, first Toyota. Straight away - this thread is awesome! Add yet another hot iron fix! Just bought a 07 Tacoma with a "busted" accessory display. Discounted accordingly and fixed in a flash! :)

There's a page in the manual that tells you what to set it to based on your part of the country; like a time zone, if you will. Plus there's a drive in a circle procedure to reset it if necessary.

Use standard 60/40 solder w/ rosin core, and use a thin diameter such as .032".

Don't use large diameter, acid core, RoHS, high temp, or any other types of solder.

You can find the recommended type at Radio Shack or equiv for a couple bucks.

Well that was easy. One of the 510 resistors(assuming they are resistors) came off the circuit board with just a touch. I soldered both just to be safe. Plugged it back in and bingo. Compass & thermometer is back.

Interested in how long this fix will last. How long as yours been working? I beefed up the solder connections as much as I could.

    Thanks again Taco Brothers

do you have to worry about the computer board melting when soldering?

Can the led's be changed in there to make it a different color? If so how many are in there?

I dont know if it would melt the board. I'm sure mine got pretty hot because I'm not the best at soldering so it took a little while and mine works good so far.

Anyone else tried to change the color of the led's in there? How many are in there? Are they the same as the cluster?
