Im glad im not the only one who didnt even realize they had an overhead temp/compass display!

i bought the truck used and didnt even realize there was an overhead temp or compass until i was browsing this site! it was broken when i bought it and i didnt even notice!

sure enough it worked for me, chalk me up as another happy tacoma owner! Thanks TW for all the help! Love my tacoma even more now!

And why did i not see this before?! These pics would have helped tremendously!! (Although i figured it out, but still....)

The pictures on the front page dont come up for me, is this happening to anyone else?

Can a mod somehow put these pics on the front page too?

So .... I need to learn to solder because I'm pretty sure that was the worst looking solder anyone's ever seen. At one point I had both resistors connected. Luckily it came out okay. Fixed!

I may be totally off the mark but what if the mirror contains the unit and it just plugs in? is there a fix for that one?

Sounds like it may be an aftermarket mirror. Can you take a picture for us to see?

I just fixed the display today after waiting a little bit for the resistors to show up. I took mine apart to find that not only was the solder on the lower one cracked, but the top resistor was MIA......For soldering the first time ever I think I did an alright job! Even better, the display works now! :D

I don't think so, The console that comes down has two compartments. One is for the sun glasses and one in for a garage door opener. I'm sorry no pic is available. However you may be right if wiring plug in harnesses for temp/compass are installed in all Tacomas. I have never owned one before...Thank you!

After being out for 2+ years I finally fix mine lol

Do we have to re-calibrate the compass?

EDIT x10000000 on super easy. All together took about 10 mins(taking it apart, soldering, testing to make sure it works, putting it back together). 1st time soldering for me as well :)

My Temp started displaying "---" a few weeks ago, but it seems that everyone that is having a problem here, its not displaying anything at all?

I took mine apart today, to make sure the resistors are soldered well.
ahhhhhhhhh, mine looks NOTHING like all the ones in the photos here.
So I have no idea where to even begin.
    I have a 2011, NOT white gauges.

If it's a 2011 why not take it in since it's still covered under warranty

I am taking it in for its first service first of the year and will be telling them about this.
But I cant leave anything alone, so I thought I would try to fix it myself.
Seems it would have been an easy fix, IF mine was the same as everyone elses.

No you don't have to, but by disconnecting from the batter it gets reset to the default VAR (who knows what that is...). It only takes about 20 seconds to set it to your VAR region code. Refer to the photo I posted in this thread (last photo in the series). Glad you finally got it fixed! :D

This fix was not applicable to me unfortunately, the 510's were intact. There was a black mark in the corner of the screen. Where can I get a new screen? Can I fix this?
