Well I am late in trying this fix..My unit went out a couple of years ago but I was waiting for the price of a new unit to go down. I purchased a new unit from Toyota in December 2011 but have not unpacked it. I looked up the internet to see how to remove the console as I was going to put the new unit in and was directed to TOYOTAWORLD and wow not only to remove the console but to fix the problem. Old unit now back in the truck and working. Now to see if I can get the replacement unit refunded. Thankyou fellas

I did this fix about a year or so ago, and it stopped working again, was taking it back down and heard a "clink" sound, and yep, you guessed it, one of the 510 resistors fell off. Any idea where I can get a replacement one for it? If not I am probably going to be SOL

The resistors have been discussed over the last few pages in this thread...

If you are like me, I don't know the first thing about soldiering, that is why it kept failing. I sent it to Greg at siliconmethod and I don't need to worry about it anymore. Problem solved.

Just fixed my temp/nav guage after being out since 07. The 510 resitors did not appear to be lose but resolder them anyway. Low and behold it worked and I ain't a soldering kind of guy. Once again this site is awesome.

ok well mine stopped working back in september. i took it out and looked at it. had to put it back in because i ended up not having time to fix it. and the things wear still on. it worked all winter just fin. but i kinda noticed this bast week that i don’t think it is reading the right temp. like the other day it was reading like 36 or something and it was in the 50’s it read this for like 5 min and slowly went up to about the temp my phone was saying it was suppose to be.

so anyone had this happen? know what it could be?

Yeah I've had that happen many times. It's definitely not an instant read. One day, I was working on a cleanup crew from early morning on. When I started outside temp was around 36 degrees .. which my overhead console read correctly. But from the time to arrival until early afternoon, all my trips were short .. 5 minutes or less .. and the console never caught up. By the early afternoon, the outside temp was 70 but the console still read 36. Only after taking a 15 minute drive did it finally catch up to the actual outside temp. Others have reported this too.

Thanks for this thread! I am officially terrible at soldering and it worked! There may be a slight melted corner on the plastic display button, but at least it works.

Mine went out yesterday just finished the fix. I read about the first 5 pages of this thread. My little 510 resistor was off, I could not beleve I found it on my floor. I pulled the unit in the garage walked to the house and took apart in the kitchen.
This thread is a big money saver. The only thing I will add is the resistor might be laying in the plastic and don't worry about soldering. I was worred about soldering that small resistor forgot to take a picture after. I had two very small dots 1 each side. So I have a few pictures, one is of the read out it looked bad but it was fine.

crappy solder and since the board sits "upside down" the resistor heats up and slowly starts to slide off breaking the connection
(thats my guess to why it happens)
