Wow, big ups to misc!!! Like ppl said before, 20 mins, 10 c worth of solder, and bammm!! Saved me hundreds (which I never would have spent anyways) and I got a working overhead consol!!

Also like ppl said before, even if it looks fine, solder them shits anyways!! Worked like a charm.

Thanks for the great write up!!

I have a question about the overhead compass. I own a base model 5 lug and mine did not come with this. I would like to add it on to my truck and I was wondering Wat would I need to do that?? Do I just buy the part or is there more to it than that? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

first make sure you're prewired for it. check and see if you have the ambient temp sensor in front of the radiator. I've read a few that it's pretty hard to hook one for 5 lugs. I might be wrong.

so do you have the ambient temp sensor?(looks like this. pic below). is the temp/compass gauge you just installed from an 05-08 Tacoma? only 05-08 temp/compass are compatible for 05-08(makes sense). 09-above is different

Sandy sangha- you might want to check the 510 resistors inside the gauge

So mine stopped working the other day. It literally took me longer to find and read the thread then it did to do the repair! Thank you very much this is a great write up. The 510 resistor was not only broken on one side but had actually popped right up and away from the board almost like a breaker would do lol.

If you're looking for the chip resistors they're difficult to find... you should be able to find some carbon film 47 ohm resistors like in this post http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/18497-overhead-compass-temp-fix-65.html#post5708183. Good luck.

I posted in this thread back in Sept after re-soldering my 510 chips, I did the same on my inlaws 06 as well. Two months later they were both out again.

I did mine right this time, got rid of the 510 and replaced with two 51ohm 1/4w resistors. They were $4 for a package of 4 at my local electronics shop so I have enough to fix my Inlaws again too. :D

    just getting started : (
Question... I was missing 1 - 510 resistor, so tried to fix it as shown on page 65 with only 2 - 1/4 watt, 47ohm resistors and it didn't work. So I added the 1 - 510 resistor I had left on top of the 2 - 47ohm resistors and it worked... is this safe, it felt pretty hot so I just want to be sure it is ok this way??

Hmmm strange... Are you sure your 47ohm R's are "bridged" across the 4 contact pads of the circuit board & not just 2 of the pads? Then when you "bridged" the 510 across the top 2 pads you completed the connection? Sorry, I'm just trying to figure out what you got... How about a picture?
