Right, so you can ship your console to these people http://www.kelownainstruments.com/Repairs/Details.aspx?product=R-TO-TA-COMPAS-1100420-138BC

And they will solder the connection for you. At a decent price. But for pretty close to the cost of shipping you can get a soldering iron, some solder, and a little rosin flux. I am terrible at soldering as you can see. But even a total ape such as myself can make this fix.

By the time you got this done at the Stealership you would have and hour and a half charged at $90/hr, shop supplies, enviro fee, processing fee, and tax. ~$200.

We should also mention that the OEM part number is 1100420-138BC that way this thread pops up for people who rip things out of their vehicles and type in the number on the sticker into a search engine and hope for the best like me.

WOOHOOO! Thanks for your post. I had resoldered the chips twice because I thought I messed it up. I was checking this thread to see where to get a new or refurbished board until I saw you mentioning pressing the button. It works in spite of my terrible soldering skills!

I just bought this 07 with display out. Soldered everything 510s, 181s, & 191. I did all these cuz each time I plugged it in I went to the next 1. After soldering 191 the display worked. Now the temp gauge only reads ---F or ---C. I checked for resistance from the sensor plug to the meter plug, it shows no open in both wires. I replaced the temp sensor in front of the radiator, still inop. Is there anything else I can solder or try before buying a new part?

*nevermind. Just posting on this site fixed it. The technical term is PFM. I fixed the display 2 days ago, works today. Guess it needed sum time to calibrate, idk but will post again if it breaks or has issues.

Thanks for the pictures of this repair. So many years of looking at that dead display and it is finally fixed with like $2 and 15 minutes of work.

That's a good price. I'm on the road a lot and fixed mine doing the soldering more than once. Like you, I finally got tired of it and decided to call the nearest dealership to get a price on the entire board. The area that I am in right now is big money so I was expecting an extra high price for it. $140.00. After reading on here about the high prices and the area that I was located in, I was shocked at such a cheap price. I had to ask the man are we talking about the same thing, lol. I went to the dealership, looked, and it was the same thing. Don't know where all these inflated prices are coming from but they are entirely over inflated. As a side note, the last time I fixed mine, I removed the 510 in question, plugged the board in and had the idea to try and connect each end of the missing 510 by placing the flat end of my pocket knife on the missing 510. I laid the knife on the board and presto, it came back on. My next thoughts were to solder straight across from one end to the other but didn't. I put it back together without the 510 and it lasted for about two weeks. Anyhow, new board here and working fine.

Well, I bought my 06 used from a Toyota dealer, and since the display didn't work, they are going to replace it for free, since the truck WASN'T supposed to be sold without everything working! :D
The cruise didn't work either, and they originally told me I was going to have to pay for getting it diagnosed and fixed. I kicked up some sand, and showed the salesman that #26 on the "Certified Used Cars" list of things to be checked was the Cruise Control. He went and told the manager that the dealership WOULD fix everything for free, or I was going to give them back the truck and take back my RAV4, which had been totally detailed and cleaned by that time!
Since I caught them, I'm getting it all done at no cost.:)

I'm a new old guy. (New to the forum, you figure the rest out). A buddy referred me here and for that, I'm grateful. Thankful to you all in the forum too.

Well, here's the story. It cost me a bit more than a dime. I found my old soldering iron. No solder. Went to the hardware store. 15 bucks for about a half pound. Thought that was a little steep. Went to Wally World and found an iron that's the right size for electronics with some solder, etc. 10 bucks. I just soldered it, put it in and turned on the key. Darn thing works. Put it back together. It's about a 20 minute job the first time. About .2 cents worth of solder. It takes about an eighth of an inch of the stuff

My 510 resistors didn't "look" loose, but when I took a razor blade and tested the edge of one, that side popped off the board.

Pretty much what happened to me. It was intermittent, took it apart, could not see any problems. Went out totally and then it was obvious because the resistor popped up off the board. I'm sure if I had soldered it the first time it would have fixed it.

Did the fix last weekend. Bought the truck used with a 30 day warranty on anything that I was dissatisfied with. Didn't know that thing up there was a compass. It would have cost me $30 in gas to get back to the dealer. Cost me zero and lernt me a thing or two about my truck. This is a great forum.

    Welcome Misterk40.

Found these guys. Didn't use them, yet. So far my "fix" has lasted three days:). Looks interesting and less than buying a new one. They have new ones too. http://www.siliconmethod.com/. Let me know what you think.
