Same here. Fixed my 06 Taco in 20 minutes no problem w/ a soldering kit ($10 bucks from Walmart). Thanks!

I just bought a 2006 prerunner two weeks ago. I'm getting new tires tomorrow and the only other thing it needs is this fix you describe. I'm a little reluctant, but I want the temp and compass to work and I am certain it will be expensive if I take it to the dealer.

    GES,

I bought my truck new, and this was the first thing to go wrong. I was just like you (reluctant to try it myself). I followed the directions with the great pics shown earlier on this thread. My 512 resistors looked fine when i took it apart, but i soldered it anyways. Then, everything was perfect again.

Trust me, I'm no mechanic. You can do it in 20 minutes. Just need a Phillips head, + tork bit (found easily), + soldering kit from Walmart, radioshak, etc.

Thanks for the information guys! Mine has been a PITA for a couple of weeks now, and sure enough one of the chip resistors had come loose from the circuit board. I soldered both sides up just in case. Works like a charm.

Mine have been off for 3 months. After reading this we were excited about fixing it. The 510 was loose we find it bellow another part and it even fall to the floor. While soldering the other 510 got loose as well. We re did it and installed it and it didn't work.

    Where I can find one?

    Thanks,

    Tacoma 2005

Previous posts seem to indicate this item may be a bit costly. You might try calling Dan at American Toyota 800-432-6668. Mention that you saw him on the "MUD" board.

SWEETNESS, just fixed mine after several months of it being broken.

My 510 was almost at 75 degree angle!! Went to Frys for a sldr gun (11.99) and a small coil of sldr(1.49).

Do check the other connections as the other 510 had a hairline fracture that I didnt see the first time. I actually thought it was dead, called the dealer and got quoted $814; then scrolled thru all the posts on the thread and read to check them all out
My solder job is hideous however

Thanks for a jolly good time and post

    Suck it, dealership

Fixed mine '06 and my buddies '05 last week.
Job was done in 1/2 hour.
Both worked fine and the Temp. was right.
Don't think toyota will put out a recall,
because it's not a 'Safety Issue'
