My console didn't come with a male connector.
I just have this piece which is why I had to cut the black wires from the female plug connector.

Also my temp works great, just the compass is the problem.

Did you mark all of the black wires before cutting them so you know which terminal they mate up to in the connector?

Oh shoot, ok now I understand what you're saying. So everything is pretty much hooked up to where it should be.

Hmm only thing I can think of is to redo the calibratin step. Instead of driving around in circles, try drive around your neighborhood.

I did but I didn't know about the vss wire so I hooked it up to where the temp worked and I figured the compass would self adjust. So now I don't know which of the 3 wires is the vss. I tried all of them separately and that didn't work unless maybe I didn't drive in enough circles.

I'll try that. Any idea what the other 2 wires are for? Since I have 3 extras and we know one is vss?

Edit : I took the tape that was marking them off for a cleaner install when I had it "working"

Ok I didn't know that you already have tried the VSS hookup yet. @kgarrett11 should have his early next week so he might be able to identify where the VSS wire goes to on the circuit board so that you can get that hooked up properly.

So even after you power it down and then boot back up it is instantly going to calibration mode? For your power did you hook that up to a switched source or constant?

Shoot, there's more then 6 black wires?

Hmm that's pretty hard to tell unless I open mine up.

That's a very good idea with the circuit board and power is a from the rear view mirror connector. I'm pretty sure it's switched. Yes it boots up and says the temp and then calN where the cardinal direction should be.

Yea there's a little bundle of them. Before I cut the plug I identified power, illumination, and ground but that's it and I have 3 extra wires.

Then there is VSS, Temp probe +, temp probe - & Illumination wire (which I assume would dim the display when the headlights are on)

Although I assume you must have the temp probe hooked up since you said it is working.

Did your compass ever display a setting? I powered mine up to confirm before I sent it over to @kgarrett11 and everything lit up okay... although I never had it installed and drove with it in.

When I first powered it up with power, illumination, ground, and temp probe it said south but wouldn't change direction while driving. That's what prompted me to calibrate it.

Not sure if there is any hard reset feature. What I would do is see if @kgarrett11 can help you identify which wire is correct for the VSS. Get that hooked up and then trying driving in circles in the calibration mode. It could be as simple as you just haven't gone in circles long enough with the VSS hooked up.

When I received my Gentex mirror the instructions stated I could either do circles like what you have done, or just drive around running my usual errand and it would eventually calibrate.

Sorry, only thing that I can think of is un hooking your negative battery and waiting 5 mins to discharge. Suck cause you'll lose your radio pre-sets, trip miles.

Have you tried pressing and holding it down?

I did unhook the battery but only for 30 seconds. I don't mind losing all that, I have pictures of all my settings:thumbsup:, but if you press and hold it for 10 seconds it goes into the area settings list, and 15 seconds it'll go into the calibration settings and pressing and holding won't undo it. I did notice that if I press and hold the button while turn the ignition in it shows p1, p2, p3, p4, p5 on the screen but then in my case goes back to calibration mode.:confused:
