I needs some help guys. Installed an overhead console in my truck and the temp gauge is on the fritz but the compass works fine

Most of the time I get these 3 dashes:

Out of no where the temp gauge started working intermittently:

My truck is a 2010. Not sure what year the console is out of.

This thread says the dashes mean I've got a bad sensor. Can anyone confirm that?

Your second pic with snow outside and the temp reading showing 76 degrees makes me think you're right about the sensor being bad. It's right out in front of the radiator. I'd first check to be sure the plug/contacts are clean.

The temp was ass over the place. It started at 91, and steadily dropped to about 75 then went back to the dashes. A minute later it popped back on at -11 then went back to dashes.

Well its not the 510 resistor so I would start with the sensor out front like RickG stated.
