Ok don't judge. The wife has a 2008 Ford escape. No front map/reading light. Has a light over the passenger area and in the cargo area.

We bought it used and someone had installed a "universal" 12 volt light with 2 aimable bulbs. It quit working. Cheap switches and bulbs blew out. I have power on the wires going to it .

Needless to say I want to move it and put something new in. What's the best way to mount to a headliner? The material isn't exactly strong and I don't think it'd hold screws too well. I was thinking of getting some of those headliner retainers and using them under the light as a mounting point.

Anyone else have some suggestions? How about something similar to a drywall toggle but for headliners?
