overheating amp

What could be the cause of an overheated amp? I have my amp powering 2 10" Jensen subs...


I was driving down to the beach yesterday and started to smell a burning/melting smell.

 

Alot of it depends on where its mounted. If it doesnt have airflow it can overheat. If it smells like burning electrionics i think it may be shot.

 

It was underneath my seat. But I moved it out from under it and into the open air.

Well it did smell alittle little burning electronics, but it still hits like it did before it over heated.

 

It might have just overheated. Just keep an eye on so it does burn up on you. Mine shuts itself off sometimes when it gettes to hot.

 

Check you wiring and make sure it`s all tight and not touching anything metal , even just alittle may not totally ground and burn a fuse but cause the amp to heat up?

 

Too low of an impedance will cause overheating. If you amp is 4 ohm stable and you are presenting a 2 ohm load (your subs) then that very well can cause the issue.

You may want to verify your wiring, both for shorts and for total load.
