    The thermostat came pre installed in the housing and comparing it to the one that came out of the truck looks exactly the same.

    Had this same thing happen to me in my 2006 this last summer at a drive thru. I noticed the AC turned warm and I looked at the temp gauge and it was in the red. I turned on the heat full and at that moment I got my food. I drove and the temp went down. It only happened once but after that I didn't do drive thru's anymore. I hope someone has an answer for you.

    Now we're spit balling. Is there a chance your lower radiator hose is collapsing? Is it old? Maybe when you're sitting still, it gets hot enough to soften. Also, how's your radiator cap? Is it holding pressure?

    Replaced the radiator hoses, had the wife rev it up to see if it collapsed when it was 210* but kept its shape. Tested the original cap and was good. Purchased a new one from Toyota and got an additional trd one to see if the extra pressure did anything. No changes.

    Does the engine fan engage and start pulling air when the temps go up? If it engages, have somebody rev the engine a bit and check that the fan revs with the engine. If it does you can cross off airflow issues. It's then likely due to coolant circulation. The water pump is belt driven isn't it? I wonder if the pulley or belt is glazed and it's slipping a bit?

    You replaced a good list of the right stuff to fix this. That it's not helping could mean that one of the new parts is defective or isn't working like it should.

    A long shot but is there any chance of air trapped in the system? Doesn't seem like that would cause your particular problem..... but almost everything has been ruled out.

    Does @RockfordTaco2006’s trick of turning up the cabin heat full blast bring the temps down? And, no problems with elevated temps when driving with the A/C off, or are they slightly elevated depending upon the ambient temperature?

    Sure sounds like an airflow issue if it’s okay while moving and only problematic while idling. Do you have access to a big fan that moves a lot of air? If so, try placing it in front of the grill on a hot day and turn the A/C on, see if that’s enough to keep the temps in the normal range, or at least improve them by several degrees. If that works, it’s hard not to give that fan clutch the stink eye, regardless of its recent replacement.

    I have bleed the system multiple times and the heater puts out blistering hot air. I was leaning towards air in the system as well.

    Turning the heater on does help bring it down. And no issues at all with temps while ac is off. I run about 185-190* in town.

    I don’t personally have one but my work does I will see if I can borrow one for a day or two and see if it changes anything.

    Have you checked your ac compressor? It may be seizing. Radiator partially clogged? Coolant temp sensor faulty?

    Maybe start looking at the A/C system. I know you say it blows nice and cold but it sounds like it's straining the engine cooling system. Any "modifications" to the A/C system? Is the charge amount exact or eyeballed? Maybe a pusher fan like the dealer suggested would be helpful. It only acts up when you're not moving. And you do live in AZ..

    Considering all the parts & labor that has been thrown at this problem up to now, I would add a pusher fan in a heartbeat.

    Would have done so a lot sooner, in fact. But that's just me.

    I think I'd be pulling that water pump back off and having a look around inside. Is there any chance a piece of a rag or anything used to temporarily plug a hole, was left in during your water pump swap???

    Before you do anything I would do a simple test first. If you have an IR heat gun or even know how to check temps by hand you can take the temp gun to the upper hose when this is happening. Take note of the temp either by IR him readout or by how hot it feels with your hand. Now check the lower. If it feels or reads slightly cooler then that's good and you don't have an actual issue, it's a temp sensor issue. If one hose is really hot and the other feels cool enough to rest your hand on no problem then that's usually indicative of a t stat problem.

    Now if thats not the case and your temp sensor checks out good after you've checked that out electrically then you can do a few things to remedy your issue. The first thing I would do is ditch Toyota coolant being that you live in the fiery pits of hell being Arizona and run Water Wetter by Redline or Engine Ice. This stuff is awesome and I use it for my boosted Tacoma for the normal engine radiator and the low temperature radiator for the supercharger coolant loop. If that helps your situation then awesome! No need to further proceed.

    If the issue persists, however, then it is indeed an airflow issue like most of these flippin 2nd gens do with their mechanical craptastic fan. You will have to switch to an E-fan and the best one I can recommend for you that I run on mine is the GM Corvette C7 ZR1 SPAL fan. There may be someone out there selling it as a kit. At the time I got mine sold to me as a kit and I think it cost me around $700 but my AC ALWAYS works now and temps are always well within check now.

    I also run (and this is entirely optional to you because I have a supercharger and hear management is ESSENTIAL for us) a 160* thermostat made by Mishimoto. I usually run between 167* - 176* more often than not. I sometimes see normal temps of 180-190* but I have to be in severely hot weather to see that sort of temperature activity, but the chance of running cooler temps because the t- stat opens sooner is more likely.

    Regardless, I hope this helps and gives you some options you didn't know about.
