@littlezav @DoorDing I have a older pair of Asolo Powermatic 200's that I have used in the hot desert summer and for snowshoeing in the winter. It is these ones.....

Most important thing about boots/footwear is that they fit properly. I did a ton of research online for a replacement hiking boot for a 3 week trek in Nepal. I found exactly what I wanted I was totally fixated on a certain brand, was minutes from ordering and thought I better try them on at REI first. Well they were way to narrow for my feet and would've killed me in the long run, tried a different boot, one that I wouldn't have considered when shopping online and have logged 300+ happy miles on them! Point is, try everything on and see what feels good but yeah you may need 2-3 pairs for different climates depending on your comfort level.

Heres the boots I ended up with.. heavy but tough and waterproof.

I'm usually an online shopper. I guess it would make sense to try them on first before going out on the trip and hating it. Thanks for the advice

Support a local store for something like shoes/boots! Or at least dont be one of the dicks that try stuff on in store to find the right size and then order it online

Nah if I'm gonna get off my lazy ass to go to a store I'm not gonna come back home empty handed if I found a shoe/boot that I liked haha

They are actually super breathable for what i've seen and haven't had any issues. But it is truly different for everyone.

I quit wearing backpacking boots about 15 years ago. I've been using trail running shoes ever since. They're lighter and more comfortable, don't require breaking in, cost less (don't last as long either), are much more breathable, more nimble and I can use them as day to day shoes when they've outlived their backpacking/hiking use. I've been using Solomon's for about the last 6 pairs. I've done 35 mile trips in the Sierra Nevada mountains with 40 pounds with Solomons straight out of the box with zero issues. This works for me but not for everyone of course. For me the downsides to trail runners are they don't provide the ankle support (if you have weak ankles and feet this might not work for you), they don't last nearly as long (but also don't cost as much) and the particular model I use has soft rubber which gives excellent traction but get's thin pretty quick. I buy shoes with gortex mostly because it keeps dew off my feet in the morning and the gortex model of shoe I use is a little stiffer than the non gortex model. Also that membrane keeps my feet a little cleaner.
I do use mountaineering boots for when crampons are required.

I'm the same way. I've been wearing Solomon Speedcross trail runners for the last several years. Maybe not the best if you have weak ankles, but otherwise they've been awesome. I have a hard time wearing true hiking boots now after wearing these for several years.

I've been wearing some version of these. First I use them for hiking, then everyday use, then gardening or somewhere they get beat up, then water shoes, then trash. It takes about 3-4 years to really beat them down to where they're falling apart.

There are some awesome trucks in this thread! I have an expo frame of mind when it comes to my truck. Eventually I'd like to get a winch and some maxxtrax. Maybe a roof rack who knows. Anyways here's the truck as it sits today..IMG_20150612_195505289_HDR.jpgIMG_20150530_160138186.jpg

We usually take collapsible crates with us. This last weekend though it was pretty cold so they just slept in the truck. I built a shelf for the backseat for them to lay on while we drive. Its on legs so I can still store stuff underneath without the dogs trampling everything.

Met a new friend in the back country this last week. Owner had a 2005 Tacoma with 37" tires.

Here is what I could remember from speaking with him and checking out his rig.
    • Body mount relocated,
    • tubbed wheel wells,
    • Chopped fenders,
    • steering stop modified,
    • Factory UCA,
    • Factory LCA,
    • Factory axles,
    • Dual Steering stabilizers,
    • Wheels with 5" back spacing?
    • Fox shocks up front?
    • Dakar Spring Pack
    • Spare was in the bed, and camping / recovery gear packed around it.
It was a nice rig and the owners were a pleasure to meet. Let my youngest kid 2.5 year old go in the tent! :D It was nice to show my wife how the RTT works too.
