The overly loud music was annoying, gave up on the series during the third episode. Hopefully they will continue to document their travels and as they get more comfortable with the off-road and recording gear the quality goes up. Until the heavy handed music editing gets sorted I'll beg off.

Ronnie is getting better but there really are allot of awesome options out there that don't get mentioned. The only downside is that they tend to offer their videos as an addition to a subscription/newsstand magazine and don't put allot of full length videos on their YouTube channels.

I have all of the 4WD Touring Australia DVDs and somewhere around 50 of the 4WD Action DVDs here. I've been thinking of adding a few more of the 4WD Action DVDs to my collection but every time I browse their catalog I get distracted by something else and never even get them into the cart. Will probably get back onto the site today to make a few selections.

These are the guys that really set the standard for off-road video and take you to some amazing places that just make your head spin with all sorts of plans and schemes on how to get yourself to Australia to get out on the tracks yourself. Then there's the trucks.

Just like the off-road videos that were mentioned above, product sponsors are a part of these shows too so expect a few salesmanship segments. The nice bit is that they tend to explain why they are using brand xyz and run down the features.

Thanks for watching the videos series. I figured I would check into this awesome community and maybe give a little insight into BOLD Overland season 1.

First it is painfully apparent that we are not in anyway professional videographers. I (this is Tommy BTW) have been learning through classes as well as self teaching on Final Cut Pro and invested a good amount of truck money in quality equipment for season 2. Most of season 1 was shot on go pro and IPhone so I totally understand professionals picking it apart. I personally pick it apart every time I view an episode. Luckily I learned from Each of them and am so stoked to keep getting better.

    2. Story line. Someone posted that their wasn't much story. Spot on. We looked like a teen driver without a gps trying to get home. The semi story wanders and gaps appear everywhere. When this was shot I had not put any thought into post production and wow was it bad... lol. I can't exactly run out to Moab from TN for a quick retake lol. I worked with what I had.

    3. Professional overlander... hmm interesting thought. I will only speak to myself and Angela(my wife) on this topic. I am not sure I want to assume what a professional overlander is exactly. But I am an Outdoor professional, instructor at a local university, owner of a small buildings doing outdoor instruction and guided trips and do infact lead paid trips overlanding. My wife and I travel often. My wife is currently in Vegas and we leave for Alabama upon her return for 4 days of overlanding to return home for me to lead an expedition to Nepal for 2 weeks. After that I am hosting SMOR in East Tennessee as an overland Rally, then back out to NC for 2 weeks in may. June with be the BOLD shoot up north and then July will be 2 weeks leading overlanding in Colorado. So I like any other person try to get out when I can. But I don't know how you quantify a professional overlander, but I bet I could actually make a good case for one. Who knows. I just enjoy traveling with my family and sharing nature with others.

I do sincerely hope you guys continue to tune in. We have some short videos coming up over the next few months and I would love some addition feedback!

    Thanks-

Are you writing a manifesto from your cabin?

About the video series, I said it before that I hope they keep traveling and keep documenting it and as they become more comfortable with the gear the end result will be more entertaining.

Case in point, the real first season of the expedition overland program has been removed from the video sharing sites. It wasn't very polished either as well.

I totally agree. I love learning new stuff and videography has been a new found challenge and somewhat of a passion. I in no way meant to offend in my post. Simply stating that "hey, I hear ya and agree in a lot of cases" critiquing is how we get better!

And the first season of EO was probably my favorite since it had a lot of wheeling footage.

Anyone have any experience with these 5lb propane bottles? Would like to get one for trips instead of my big one.

Would also like to get a mount or build something possibly using a big quickfit to be able to mount it in the bed of the truck under the snugtop as well.

Guess I would need to find somewhere that sold them and that could refill, but should not be a problem in my town.

When I had a few VW Transporters one of the Westfalia camper options was a small LPG cylinder that mounted underneath. Might be worth considering so that you can keep the bottles out of the bed.

Damn you and your fancy stuff.

I would worried to mount that underneath and end up puncturing it on a rock or something.

5lb is cheaper and would end up mounting on a swing out in the future. Should be fine inside the shell for small trips though.

Well, this weekend's monster storm curtailed our plans to drive Mojave Road from east to west. Instead, we followed the storm up to Calico Saturday afternoon. The weather was perfect. I keep asking myself why it has been so many years since I was last there.

I have one. It works great. Got tired of carrying the 20#er and didn't want to carry a bunch of little ones either. This works perfect for my needs.
I mounted it on my rear bumper with one of these. A little spendy, but Works great
