Did you completely remove the seat? What did you use for a base?

I'm thinking of doing something similar.

Yea, I removed both the bottom and back of the seat. I used a piece of 3/4 wood for the platform. Check out my build thread for a run down of exact parts/items used.

I'll be driving vancouver island over 10 days dirt for about 80% of it. A few national parks, lakes and driving past where the road ends the goal is to go as far north as physically possible

Cool. I really enjoy the island but I have never gotten to explore the northern parts. It must be a pretty crazy route to make 5k km.... Isn't it only like 500km from end to end?

Well I'm starting in Abbotsford, and yeah its pretty back and fourth we have to back track a bunch from tofino and there's some weirdness that happens mid Island. The Km's add up really fast plus we keep adding side stuff onto the main route lol so I'm kinda allowing it to be around 5k km round trip

I really do need to drag it out and get a heap of pictures of it soon as my insurance guy wants some for his records. I'll get some posted soon.

From watching several GoPro Karma viedeos and following it a bit - the Karma was rushed to market and had a flaw that the battery did not seat properly and came loose during flight and -- uh oh -- fell from the sky. GoPro took a huge hit and did the right thing in recalling all of their Karmas. They recently did a re-release but as I understand it - not doing so well after their first foray.

A pretty good article about the first attempt is here:

I pulled the front bumper off to re-paint it and left the winch (with steel cable) off when I reinstalled it. The difference of not having an extra 60 pounds up front is amazing!

Thanks for info, crazy that a company could rush something into production without testing properly.

They were in a rush as DJI was getting ready to introduce their Mavic Pro onto the market and GoPro wanted to beat them to the market. They gambled, and lost. Hopefully they will quit screwing around with the drone market and refocus on low cost action cameras.

[X-post from show off your mtb thread]

Do any if you bring mountain bikes with you? I'm trying to figure out the best way to carry mine on my rack.

My bikes got 27.5+ tires and 15x110mm thru-axle, because of the disk brakes I'd rather leave the wheels on when i put it on the rack.

A hitch carrier might end up being my best bet.
