In the context of the conversation regarding cooking over different apparatus it makes a difference. If briquettes or charcoal come into play then dutch ovens can be used for some great meals.

Makes sense. I like to expedite feeding my family after a long day too.

You guys clearly have far superior cooking apparatus knowledge. I thought a dutch oven was something involving farts, and a BBQ was what I had on my deck.

Even the great Google machine was not able to tell me the difference between a grill and a BBQ, only the difference between the concept of grilling and BBQing. BBQing = lid closed on low heat was my take away from that knowledge quest.

Must be a Southern thing then or something like that... I grew up eating Hominy.

Will be honest... I thought I had some in my pantry as I wanted some... went to the pantry and I did not have any at all. Going to have to go buy some Hominy and eat some this weekend.

Actually, if you could get it here, it'd only be about $30K. The exchange rate works in our favor...

Didn't know where to post this but, wanted to post an easy project to light up camp. I've seen plenty of pictures camping with light sticks and had every intention of putting one together. Although it's not original by any means, I had most the parts around the compound.
The original intent was to use a telescoping paint pole(and eventually will) and put a light on it but, when feeding animals I found a telescoping aluminum tripod sprinkler that folds up and gave it a try.
    IMAG3139_1.jpg
So, I unscrewed the sprinkler and figured that I could mount the light on a threaded pipe. While out and about I found a 1/2 x 1/2 galvanized piece(see pic) that would fit perfect. I have had a couple of 3" LZR KC lights that someone here(an old friend) sent me that I never got around to using. I mounted the light on the pipe with a bolt and nut that would fit into the threaded hole as I screwed it in.
    IMAG3142_1.jpg
    Screwed in perfect
    IMAG3146_1.jpg
For the wiring I bought a 10ft 12V Cigarette Adapter cord on Amazon for 10.99. I drilled a hole in the center tube were a hose would normally attach and fed the wire through it.
    IMAG3149.jpg
    IMAG3147.jpg
Anyway, long story still long, worked out great for having most of the material and not spending a ton. I suspect if you don't have a light any ol' Blitz Pro or cheaper Chinese led would be a solid choice for a cheap project.

I have been thinking about doing something like that with these solar powerd LED lights. The reviews are favorable and suggest that they are pretty bright, I bet they would be good enough for base camp lighting.

Have one of these in my yard for the dogs. It's ok. Not the brightest thing in the world but allows them to see. Works pretty good for 4-5 hours throughout the night then seems to be out by early morning.

@GHOST SHIP gave me an idea I want to try sometime. Mount a light to the end of a telescoping pole. Mount the pole to my swing out. Get to camp and send it way up. Keeps bugs away from where I'm cooking and gives better coverage

Seems to be a good idea, Mrs Ho and I have actually talked about solar lights but, I have had such shitty luck with low level solar lights in our landscaping, always seems cheap and the lights fade. Although, the YouTube videos seem to be pretty solid on innoGear.

I think I ran across that in my original search, interesting idea for sure and lightweight. Easily could make your own - rod, led, power cord and use a ice fishing rod holder
    [IMG]

Like I said in my original post, that was my original plan as I saw a light pole write up on Expo, Mudd or ? I planned to just quick fist them to the rear bumper or a table leg in camp as well.
In fact, I just ordered another cigarette adapter from Amazon and will be off to find a telescoping pole this weekend.

I am fairly pleased with the tripod as it is a bit more mobile.

Here was the original article I read - http://www.expeditionutah.com/2013/04/paint-pole-led-camp-light/
