It was smart of them to move it but the mormon lake surrounding area was cool. Just with the bad weather, the field was not a great venue.

Also I live in Los Angeles. Dispersed camping is not easy to get to so I take advantage when I can. Most of our camping is surrounded by people in parking lot campgrounds. :(

    Still fun, just different fun.

No you still can! Definitely lots of open forest around.
Just the "onsite" camping won't be in an open field as its been in past years

This will be my first overland expo trip, Do the vendors usually bring inventory for sale? If so I need to bring a fist full of cache.

A lot of vendors bring their smaller items to sell! Normally they have discounts too!

I'm hoping to hit the Idyllwild area a bit before the move. That and the mountains up in Los Padres.

I used to live in SB and I loved how easy it was to get to the forest.

Cheater. I dub thee "The Whore of Pelfreybilt"

Yeah staying onsite if you're just going for one day is a totally different story. Of course you wouldn't pay for a full weekend of camping if you're only going to be there for 1/3 of the time. I'd camp dispersed, too. It's the guys that are coming for the entire weekend that will have a hassle by camping offsite and having to run back and forth.

The expo vendors are going to be set up on the actual fairgrounds. If you look at the map of the new venue, the onsite camping is all within the treeline. Shade and wind protection for sure.

Hell, ARB brought a full semi trailer full of everything last year including all of their awning gear and even bigger items.

This will be my second Overland Expo. But my first Overland Expo West. I'm leaving Friday (Cindo de Mayo) after work to begin my 2,300 mile trip to Flagstaff. Planning to reach the outskirts of Flagstaff on Monday, May 8th. Then roll in to the event location around 8am on Tuesday. I'm scheduled to work setup crew Tuesday and Wednesday and Tuesday is the earliest I can camp at the event location.

My Thursday is open so I'm hoping to take a trip to see the Grand Canyon and Horseshoe Bend (not sure how reasonable that is). Then Friday and Saturday I'll take in the Expo and all it has to offer and maybe help out the Overland Bound team if they need it. I've never spent any amount of time in this part of the country other than pass through it on the Interstate almost 18 years ago. So I'm really looking forward to the trip.

Ugghhh... I hate that! Yeah, I was thinking I'll probably need to tear down the roof top tent Wednesday night and sleep in the back of the truck with Terry the Adventure Pup. That way we can wake up early Thursday morning and hit the road. Looks like it's about a 2 hour drive, which means a very early morning.

Question: Are there any dog-friendly places in Flagstaff? Terry the Adventure Pup is coming with me, riding shotgun, and providing me with quality advice. He's a 25 lb. cockapoo... best friend ever. I'd love to find some places where I can bring him along and not have a friend watch him.
