Hey Guys... anyone planning on heading up to Overland Expo on Saturday morning from Phoenix? Anyone want to cruise together up there?

Thought it'd be nice to get a small group together to drive up if anyones interested... perhaps some of you already got plans to do so and could use a tag-a-long?

I'll be on site sometime Thursday. Leaving on wedn and will prob find some place to camp on the way once I start to get close to flagstaff and then finish off the drive and explore the area a bit before setting up camp onsite.

So it looks like I probably am gonna roll up and get a day pass.

Only question is Friday or Saturday? I'm guessing based on the discount admission that Sunday is when a lot of people have packed up & bailed. So is Friday less crowded & Saturday when more people turn up?

Also I am bringing my bestop topper to hopefully sell, BUT:
Almost new FN Five star 16x8 in gloss silver, -25mm offset (3.5" backspace), includes new TPMS sensors, lugs, and key, plus 245/75/16 Toyo's with 3,000 miles on 'em...

I will roll these down out of my 3rd floor apartment and bring them along with, but only if someone is genuinely, seriously interested in picking them up. Expo special price of 800 bucks firm.

Is there anyway, for those of us planning to camp onsite, that we can pick an area to try and congrugate for camp? I dont really get where the camping is when looking on the map (expo newb here)

I have had mixed luck with the buddy heater and have stopped carrying mine on trips. A couple of times, on really cold nights, it ran out of fuel and we woke up cold. This is no bueno.

New trick: I often camp with my 6-year old in my RTT in the cold. Mom worries and I don't want him to be cold, so I've started using an old back packing trick that works REALLY well. I fill a Nalgene bottle with boiling water an put a thick sock around the bottle to prevent burns. Then I put the bottle in his sleeping bag. It works wonders and is often still warm the next morning. My son likes it so much that he has started asking for water bottles at home.

I've always done this but she is cold blooded... I'm gonna run it at night before going to bed so the tent is warm to fall asleep. Use the bottle to stay warm overnight, and turn the heater back on in the morning since I always get up about an hour earlier than her.

Look into a bigger propane tank too.

Question for you! How do you close your rtt with it being so high. I have problems with closing mine because I have a softopper, that has forced me to get really high off the ground. I'm 5'10 and a bit of the fluffy side of life and have a really hard time closing it up. I have thought about getting a ladder so I can get to the top of the rtt. Suggestions are much appreciated.

I stand on the tire and sliders. It was super hard before I had sliders.

Still not super easy, but I can do it on my own in about 10 min.

    Some stuff here and there....
I use sliders, tires, tail gate and stand on the bed rails aswell. It's just a pain being up that high. That's why the new bed rack is so low

I always throw a new tank on it, then keep the old tank for a spare in the tent. Once I wake up, I take the spare and use it to make coffee.

Also: I use the tire and tailgate to stand on when tucking in all the fabric. If my wife is there with me, once folded in half, I make her climb up on the prinsu rack and tuck in the front.
