Have had a GFC for 2 years now. If you are considering RSI and ikamper you are already in the gfc territory for money. I’d take the support of an American made brand, their customer service is widely known to be stellar. I’ve slept well over 100 nights in my GFC camper in all 4 seasons. It’s built incredibly well.

So we very rarely spend more than 24 in a spot, what we have found is that the less stuff to set up and take down is really nice. If I could figure out a no camp chair solution for instance I would be all over it. We ditched the awning after 2 trips, no ground sheets, no elabrote kitchen, the Clamshell is really kick ass for easy set up and take down. Even if you dont ditch the RSI, I would encourage you to look at a clamshell camper. Some are less than 100lbs.

2.5” OME lift, Koenig Six Shooter wheels, 275/70r17 Nokian Outpost AT, CMC, Nitro 4.88s, Greenlane aluminum sliders, CBI aluminum skid, Greenlane aluminum front bumper, Out Gear Solutions HC rear bumper, Baja SAE fogs
Instagram overland setups look super cool but that’s all they are good for. They make trucks which perform horribly in all categories. Crap on highways, crap on trails.

Slap on aluminum sliders and 255/75r17 ATs, and call it good. That setup will out-wheel AND out-long-distance-tour any beefed out overland rig.

Totally agree, the less the better as far as accessories, the essence of the nimble and lightfootness of the taco really gets muddled and lost when 1k of shit is put on these rigs.

Yes, this needs to be broadcast more broadly on here. DO NOT add weight. Tires and aluminum sliders are all you need.

If you want your truck to not be a gas guzzling dog, then do not add:

    • Aftermarket roof racks (OEM only)
    • Heavy steel bumpers (aluminum or minimalist may be ok)
    • Obtrusive light bars (they really kill aerodynamics)
    • Bed racks with unnecessary shit hanging off them
    • Regears with higher digits than 4.56
    • Tires over 50 lbs
    • Wheels over 25 lbs
