I live in Chester and am familiar with the forest roads if anyone has questions.

I have a friend with a cabin in Warner Valley and I make it up there at least once per year to hang out. He's not an off-road guy (just a little Subaru Impreza), so he doesn't know the roads that well. I have a MVUM, but are there any interesting short/medium drives to get some views, see some water (lakes/rivers), and are just generally fun? I've driven all over Death Valley and such, so technical doesn't scare me, but I don't rock crawl and don't have any armor other than the OEM stuff. @ChesterTaco

If you keep going up Chester-Warner Valley road it turns into the 18 road. Go up towards Willow Lake and there are many roads to explore. Nothing technical but lots of scenery to see.

Love the scenery up that way. Fun roads too, usually run into a SxS or two.

By Child's Meadow on 36, east of Mineral, I take the Wilson Lake road which is a little east, go past Wilson Lake may be a mile or less take a left after the thru cut, then to a parking spot 7 to 9 miles in where I backpack to one of the Blue Lakes in the area, road goes on. If you hike much, some old 4X4 roads you can only hike over now there.

I love that area. The road to the left is the 18 road. If you keep on that road you end up on Chester-Warner Valley road and back into town by Pizza Factory. It's another way into Upper Rice Creek. Next time you hike up to Blue Lake about 100 feet to the left on the trailhead is a cool waterfall.

I look at some of the old trails and roads that you can only hike over now, imagining what old 4X4s went thru to get to where they could. Chainsaws, required equipment.
