Does anyone have recommendations for overlanding the UP? Specifically the Keweenaw Peninsula. I plan on going this fall with my family and would really appreciate any advice.

The UP is lots of fun! Temps are dropping quick up there, so youll want to be prepared for some colder weather.

Get a Delorme map and set off. Beware some 'maintained' roads up there can be pretty rough or narrow. Majority are gravel at best.

Also beware, most camp spots are first come first served. On busy weekends it can get hard to find one in popular areas.

Checkout the Michigan Overland FB group.

I was in far northern lower Michigan and hit some trails up there...just beware, even miles inland, it can be very soft and sandy! But it was great up there and we had a good time.

It is beautiful in the upper peninsula. I highly recommend stopping at local party stores, they usually have two track, fire trail, Forrest trail maps for free. You can go forever without touching pavement.
As the previous thread mentions a lot of soft sandy tracks, they turn into a flowing river quickly...
Don’t forget a fly rod, it’s brook trout haven up there.

Get a case of Stroh's (originally fire brewed in Detroit) and trade it for ammo or beaver pelts.
