I plan on taking it touring (I believe that's the right term) and take it across the U.S.A and possibly through other countries one day. the most likely encounters will probably me mud, sand, and rocks since I like the Idea of taking it through the mountains.

You realize this requires your frame to be cut to install, and in the end your axle line has no additional ground clearance, other than what comes from the radius increase of the tires, right? The common term is a 'drop bracket lift'.

Not the stuff your goals are made of.

    As I suggested before,
Also, as @Casper66 said previously, pick up the phone and call Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road to talk your way through options.

Not being rude (seriously. I mean we all had to learn sometime) but when you don't know the difference between a body lift and a strut spacer, you don't need to be web shopping. You need to be talking with a pro like Marie.

Another thought. If your cross country venture is a ways off, take the build slow, and start taking short forays. Then consider the next step for the build based on what you learn or find as shortcomings.

The most critical thing about your travel adventure is 1) reliability 2) knowing how to make common field repairs yourself 3) having the right recovery gear and knowing how to safely use it.

Success is not always about how high the vehicle sits or how big a tire you can stuff.

Thanks for the advice Bill. We are planning to take our time with the build and do exactly as you describe, get our feet wet with off-roading slow and easy.

We will give Marie a call when it's time to look at the suspension.

It's hard not to ahead of ourselves, and research seems almost completely impossible given the huge amounts of conflicting information out there.

Hell, just throw a sleeping bag and a ice chest in the back and you're good to go. Seriously though, I went with a 3" OME lift and heavy duty Dakar rear leafs. That seemed to me the best solution without breaking the bank on King or Icon. So far it's done really well with all my added crap weighing it down. That is a really sweet looking truck. Good luck with it.

I would agree that there is lots of different information. Some marketing/vendor based, some 'people' based, depending on actual experience and use.

Our suspension forum is actually a good place to read some, particularly the 'sticky' section. https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/suspension.18/

Another thought is to find some local offroaders (experienced) and spend time with them, both conversationally and off road, and learn by watching.

And of course we have really experienced people around here too. Like @geekhouse23 and others.

The thing to discern in the forum is who is an actual similar user to your goals, and who is more concerned about looks. Don't get me wrong, looks are nice to have. As long as you have the functionality first. Looks don't get you very far offroad. ;)

Well said Sir. I make decisions on mods just as Bill described. Mods with the truck and the camper come from use and finding my short comings then making a plan to rectify them. I don't care at all if I have the coolest looking truck around it is merely a tool for our adventures. For what you have described your goals are you need, just as @Clearwater Bill described something functional and reliable. You aren't building a purpose built rock crawler to do what you want. A complete Old Man Emu suspension may serve you well as I stated they have been using these in Australia for a long time "overlanding' Or a set up like I have using Bilstein. The best part is you have options.

Funny thing is for some reason I have never bought a single thing from y'all. It's your customer service and communication with this company along with your recomendations for equipment, not just suggesting the most expensive but what will suit the customer's needs, that lead me to recommend you to people.

We were consumers before we were vendors and ran into the issue of either getting no response from the vendors at the time or having them only sell us on what they made the most money off of. Though we are literally a mom and pop shop we can't always get to everyone and fulfill all of their exceptions we try to do what we can as often as we can. We appreciate the support!
