Step one..weigh your fully laden rig at a local scale. After that, find a suspension set-up that will handle your load and style of driving.
I settled on Deaver Stage 3 with Elka 2.5 (non-res.) shocks, and 700 lbs. coils up front. I've had this running for two seasons so far, and I'm extremely pleased with the performance.

    Cheers

Does anyone know if the Ovrlnd will clear a roof top Prinsu rack?

They can build the sides up slightly higher to clear it, you’d just let them know while you spec it out.

The interior build on our flatbed camper is pretty close to done. I still need to build a shelf for cooking appliances and storage but it's totally functional now. We had OVRLND put floor "joists" in and we completely enclosed the camper. We used 1/2" birch plywood covered with vinyl for the floor. Then we insulated the walls and covered it with a wood look MDF panel. The front left has a ~25 gallon water tank with a 12v pump. I still need to put in a couple quick connects for the water through the walls of the camper, but I'm not sure which ones I'll use for that yet. We have 400 watts of solar on the roof running through a renogy 50a dc-dc/mppt controller into a 200ah renogy lithium battery. We have easy fridge access from outside via the flip up hatch and it is still easily accessible from inside. Bags and chairs can be stored behind the back of the couch. The couch rolls over into a bed for our 3 year old. I'm going to add some molle panels to the outside of the rear doors for propane storage and a box for our water heater.

What a cool idea. I wish it would hold a bigger battery. Probably too small for most house batteries. It said it would hold a group 34 battery so a smaller lithium would work. Only problem running lithium would be charging it if it's cold outside unless you can fit a battery warmer in there.

    Question:
Has anyone used a Hest mattress in their OVRLND camper?
I need something better than I have.
And all my GFC buddies rave about them.

I went with this mattress, it’s been amazing so far:

    https://roamrest.com/shop/overland-mattresses/roamrest-overland-pioneer-2024-1/

I have the extra bedding height and I pull the bed slide out a few inches, but it closes with no issue.

Just installed Archive garage xd leaf springs. They are replacing the deaver u402 stage 3. These springs seem to be holding the weight better and are rated to just over 1700 lbs of extra weight. I will do a follow up once I have a chance to do some offroad testing.

This page sure doesn't get much love.

I have been spending a little more time camping in the cold this year. So I purchased a diesel heater off Amazon and put it to work.

Played around with my heater today. I cut both the power and control cables. Added twist connect fittings. Drilled and mounted the surface mounts. Ran new wires, and gave it a test.
Everything worked great. Tested the thermostat setting, seemed to work just fine. The burner shut down when the temperature was reached. The fan slowed way down, but stayed on. Then the burner would reignite when the temperature dropped.

    20241120_133133.jpg

I was able to get out and test the heater with temperatures in the teens and single digits. Even on low, it kept the camper at about 56º F all night. It burned a little over half of the fuel tank.

It isn't easy cutting holes in the side of an expensive camper.
But I feel this is a better answer to my heater ducting solution.

So before I took this heater out to test, I used it to heat my garage for two days. I discovered that it burns less fuel on high than it does on low. But high would run you out of the camper in a hurry. I am very impressed with how well this little heater works.

I was surprised that it burned so much fuel on low.

i am as well, and just in discussion, it really doesn't make sense to me. it's a very simple diesel fuel burner. it should be dosing less fuel on the lower settings. maybe it just keeps the dosing the same and changes the combustion speed instead or something.

    Question:

Looking to purchase an Ovrlnd for our 2021 tacoma TRD off road with stock suspension. I haven't weighed the truck with all our gear in it yet, but am estimating we will be maxing out the payload. For those of you with Ovrlnd campers - are you still running a stock suspension? If so, have you noticed an effect or changes from adding the camper? Anyone out there that modified their suspension ahead of time and wishes they hadn't?

For those that did modify their suspension - what did you go with and why?

I went with a set of Alcan springs. If you chose to go that route, wait till you mount your camper and pack everything as if you are going camping, then weigh your truck. You will need that for a proper set of springs.

I modified my suspension before, but my truck was already pretty heavy due to high clearance bumper, rock sliders, and skid plates. I am currently on my 3rd set of springs because I underestimated the weight of my truck. I'm currently running archive garage xd leaf springs. You could also get some airbags or an add a leaf if you didn't want to change the springs.

If I could do it over I would weigh my truck first. This would save money and time by getting it right the first time. Having a saggy rear end makes these trucks drive poorly.
    Good luck!
