Since no one else has done it I might as well. I recently bought the OVT Dump tubes but havent installed them yet. There seems to be very limited information available about install, performance increases and potential negative outcomes. I have seen some info scattered around on the two main OV tune threads but the tubes need their own home. Hopefully we can start to gather all available info and keep it in this thread. Civility endorsed but not required.

Im catted. I did the whole no cats thing on my second gen and learned to hate it. These smell really rich when they have no cats and people always tried to tell me there was something wrong with my truck.
I remember Matt posting a dyno a while back of an automatic truck that showed significant gains, but I think these were mostly due to a torque limit in the stock tuning that the auto has in 1st and 2nd gear. Im wondering if the manual trans will show any gains from the catted pipes. I hope for some return on my $700.
Im surprised how few people on the forum seem to have these. When they were first released it seemed Matt was burried with orders and the supplier couldnt keep up.

pretty sure Mat has too many irons in the fire - work, family, work, work, TW forum, work, family, sleep (not), WFT... who am I and what day is it. Ugh for him. Any pics? ??? about emission and CEL - as I have CARB requirements in my State. Install tips appreciated.

Yup, and Im pretty sure Matt has a newborn also. Im really curious about Cels also. Matt said he had no issues with his truck so who knows. We have cali emissions where I am also but no visual or sniffer just plug in. My 2nd gen used to pass with an o2 sensor sim. Im still waiting on gaskets so no install yet.

From the ovt auto thread I am reading that there is a possibility that the catted tubes will throw a p0420 check engine code. This would be a huge bummer. I wonder if the 2nd gen 02 sensor sim would work to correct this. I had a 2nd gen with long tube headers and no cats with this sim for 250k mi and never threw a cat code.

think they added the URD Y pipe downstream - which eliminates the lower bank of cats = not a good option if you want to prevent CEL noted.

I'm not familiar with the exhaust of the tacoma but when I did my 3" turbo back on another vehicle I just threw some spark plug spacers on until I retuned and had them delete the emission codes entirely.

I'm pretty sure only the front cats are monitored, at least that's how it was on the 2nd gen. It goes wide band 02 sensor, first cats then second 02 emissions sensor then secondary cats in y pipe.
I have heard anecdotally that spacers on the 02 sensors will not work with the taco.

Copy paste of a post I made in the OVtune Alpha thread.

It wasn't too bad but I am a mechanic so take that for what that is worth. I thought the hardest part was unplugging the o2 sensors lol. It took me just a little over an hour on my hoist, leave the 02 sensors in and remove them when you get the old cats on the bench and install them on your dump tubes before installing them.
It is a tight fit but you can get them out without removing any additional parts, you just have to wiggle them the right way ;) Jack the truck up so the front tires hang free and you can go in from the wheel well without removing the tires to get the cylinder heads nuts. You will want a long extension and an impact wobble with a 12mm semi deep socket for the manifold nuts on the cylinder head ;) A 14mm ratchet wrench is also handy for the exhaust brackets where they attach to the transmission. This was on a M/T truck, auto's may be different...

ETA I also had the URD cat delete ypipe installed beforehand so I did not have the secondary cats in the way...

Catless with the URD cat delete Y pipe and a flowmaster dual outlet with a 18" spiral louvered glasspack as a resonator in front of the muffler. Butt dyno says noticeable improvement and I don't have the dedicated dump tube tune for 04B13 yet @OVTune

And yes the CEL came on after about 3 minutes running

OEM gaskets can be ordered here, you will need 2 of each #2 and #7 if you need to remove the secondary cats you will need 2 of #11

I want the catted dump pipes but $700-$800 aint cheap. Would pay no more than $500. So Im hoping i can get it used, probably next year while I save the money.

Have the catless dump tubes. Like the performance and sound but don't care for the CEL as I travel a lot and like to use cruise control. Waiting to see if OVTune can produce a tune that remedies the CEL. If it cannot be remedied by spring, mine will be up for sale.

Matt has said he will not write a tune that disables the CEL because epa rules. URD does make a universal 02 sensor sim that should fix that. I have not had a chance to reach out to Gadget about it yet.

Ordered Catted dump tubes on 8/18 and am still waiting for them to show up. OVT said the next batch will be going out in a few weeks so hopefully early November I'll have them.

I plan on ordering the Borla y-pipe which keeps the stock secondary cats as well once they release it.

I’m the one that has catted dump tubes, URD y pipe and having issues. If anybody has any suggestions! Please!

I’ve got a buzzing sound only when accelerating and I hit approx 2500 rpms. Can’t tell if it’s a leak or just engine noise???? But a local exhaust shop couldn’t find any leaks...no visible signs or audible signs at idle.

also have PO420 and PO430 codes.

I ran the URD Y pipe for months with stock dump tubes and no codes or “buzzing” sound.

install was easy but figuring out this shit is not. I’m starting to think I got a faulty set of dump tubes...I will say though the truck does seem to be more responsive with them. Little better gas mileage too it seems. Also still just on 1.05.

As far as I have seen you are the only person besides Matt on the forum that has the catted tubes installed.
