I wonder how much torque/HP the Tacoma transmission can handle before mechanical failure occurs?

It has been stated earlier in this thread that the exact same transmission is used in vehicles overseas that have turbo diesel engines. Those naturally make much more torque than our 3.5L motors, so knowing this, it should be fine.

I would hope Toyota leaves a bit of torque tolerance. VW doesn't, getting a mild tune is enough to cause slippage on the 6MT GTI. :frusty:

Aisin rates the AC6/RC6x transmission at 400nm or 295 ft/lbs. Like most of Toyota's products, the rating is conservative. The AY6/RA6x series has a 450nm or 332 ft/lbs rating, my best guess for the higher rating, if it exists, is the forward one piece case/bellhousing.

You’re referring to a clutch. The manuals will need a clutch upgrade when turbo. Most upgrade their clutches anyways stock.

Yeah, my MK7 6mt was starting to slip after my eurodyne stage 2+. Didn’t wanna upgrade the clutch so I sold it lol

You could tune to keep the stock torque output but do it across a much wider range of RPMs and have a ton more power under the curve.
