When I updated my 04B04 during upgrading tune files to 2.0 I backed up the original files installed by Toyota. Anybody know where those files are located on the computer used for flashing?

I had to do some computer repairs and think those files are lost but want to do a complete hard drive search. I assume those files would end in .p5f as well, correct?

Reason being is if I take my truck in for service bulletin repair for ECU they might see the OVtune files and say the warranty is voided or charge me for the update that is normally free.

Does the ECU ID get updated every time Toyota does an update or does it stay the same for the life of the ECU module?

    The new guy in town......

The stock files are located within the vF Tuner install directory. They will end in .vfc, and possibly .vft.

I wouldn't be concerned about warranty, as most files report back the stock calibration ID. That ID is likely all the techs will see.

The ECU ID will update if Toyota comes out with a new update for the ECU and/or the ECU part number changes.

Thanks ktbell444 for info. The program I used was the old flash manager V1 which used p5f file extensions. It seems I missed the free upgrade time period and they won't be nice and send me the upgraded version. I searched the whole computer for *.p5f files and found this one that had a different naming convention, would it be the one I created when making a backup of the factory software 8966304B0400_89663-04B04-20190730-184450.p5f?

I also found a thread on this site talking about using the Tactrix ecuflash program to modify tune files. Is this something that can be used to modify the V2 final tune files like 04B04_Reg_Stock_Thx.p5f?

The corrections I am trying to make are related to the delay in acceleration when I floor the throttle from dead stop, there is about 1 second delay before anything happens.

The other correction is when I am towing a trailer with cruise control on, the transmission keeps shifting down then up then down and repeats when going up slight incline. My work around is to press the ECT button and put the automatic transmission into 4th gear. If I understand the gear lock feature of the tune software it will stop the transmission from shifting into 5th gear, right?

Ah. I would highly recommend you contact vF Tuner to upgrade. I believe it's still an option, but likely not for free. The .p5f files are not editable by us, so there's nothing you can do there. The same goes for ECUFlash, you cannot edit the .p5f files. But it sounds like you also found your backup, which is good to know.

Most, if not all, aftermarket tunes made with vF Tuner address the gear hunting you describe, but if you don't want to go that route and you want to make your own edits, vF Tuner will still be the option to take. There are a few threads on here with common edits as well as other things we have learned along the way after vF was released. The number of features you'll get by moving to vF will be a significant upgrade compared to what you have now.

Thanks for all the help, I will do more research to better understand how vF tuner works and how I can make the gear hunting fix and increase throttle response.

If I do make the upgrade will my truck now pour me a glass of whiskey with ice upon request????

I forgot to ask, what is my path to purchase vf tuner when I have the OBD2 port connector and cable I received when I purchased the OV Tune software kit back in 2017?

I think I just need the tuner software license since I already have the connector and USB cable, correct?

Send an email to vF, provide them with the serial number on the tactrix device, and they'll be able to let you know if all you'll need is the software.
