I am curious which one is best if you use your truck to tow. Extra low end torque and power are a huge help.

I’m holding out for KDMAX dyno charts of stock vs their tune. I would love to see improvements in power across the entire rpm range, not just up top.

I tow ALOT using the tune I mentioned above your last comment and it’s great! I tow 3500-5000lbs and get 12-14mpg

This thread has convinced me that when I’m ready to get a tune, it will be the KDMax one and not OVTune. This is the second thread on this topic where I’ve not been impressed with Mat’s responses to criticism of his product whereas PapaRee is literally offering to give his product to a ‘hater’ in an effort to put his money where his mouth is. That impressed me!

Exactly my thoughts. When I'm ready to tune I'm going with KDMax and not OVTune for that very reason.

I recently got an OVTune. The tuner applied TSB-0092-20 to my 2020 AT Tacoma which updated my 04B80 ECU to 04B81. Then flashed Ovtune 2.0 final for stock tires, stock gears and THX for enhanced throttle control.

I wasn't looking for more power and didn't want to pay for premium gas to achieve a few more ponies, I've already done the race car scene.

I was riding around with ECT always on due to hating the truck without ECT on. My gas mileage was about 15 city 18 hwy with 265/70-16 AT tires. After the tune I'm driving without ECT on and I'm now getting 17/18 city 21/23 hwy. I'm happy with the OVTune and not saying it's better than KD, I have no idea but I like how my truck drives now and MPG has gone up.

Just offering my limited experience with my tuned truck. Whats everyone with KDmax getting on mpg's

People seem to forget or not know that we gave free dyno tunes out, free kits, etc plenty of times. We are past that now, and only focused improving vf tuner and tune packs that everyone can enjoy, modify, create tunes and services from, etc.

Big difference between legitimate criticism and trolling, and some users here are flat out trolls, nothing else. They know who they are.

thanks. I’m less worried about mpg than power to pull. I pull a flat bed twin axle trailer with my CRX on it. All told it probably weighs in at 3200lbs.

I have tried every tune listed in this thread and KDMax is by far the best IMO. Moose's MW 3.1 was my favorite for a very long time, and there are things about his tunes that still are preferable IMO, he is a super talented tuner and I have nothing but respect for him. The ultimate DD is awesome too for sure, but I love KDMax. For some reason there was some weird behavior in low speed/rpm with ultimate DD that I haven't felt before that definitely wasn't present in MW 3.1- almost like the truck was confused and non responsive at certain rpm's (usually on cold starts). I still think the linear throttle AJ makes is beautiful, but KDMax is the best my truck has ever felt. Personally I don't think it should be a dick measuring contest and should be more praise for these guys testing and making our trucks the best they could be, which is why I always sent them beer money with each new release before it was all locked etc. Also props to Matt but yeah waiting on the final 2.0 and hearing "soon" for over a year is frustrating, which may have been a blessing cause we have some pretty awesome tunes that have come from it and the vftune platform. I don't appreciate the trolls either, and we'd have none of this without him, but it is what it is.

Just remember, none of this would be possible without @OVTune and pissing on someone else’s fire doesn’t make yours shine any brighter.

OVTune and vF tuner is brilliant, KDMax is just building on that success. Respect for all involved is due.

No matter what he does, someone is always unhappy about something. Without his years of work, we’d all still be suffering on the stock tune and a lot would have probably ditched the Tacoma by now. vF let’s people make exactly what they want so everyone can be happy

Let's make the people who paid 800$ and paved the way for vf tuner happy with an actual performance tune we were promised and not supposed to make ourselves or pay again for. Years of work doesn't equate to delivering the product we paid for.

2.0 is a performance tune. I've explained this plenty of times. Every tune we have released provides more performance.

At the end of the day it shouldn't even be a "kdmax vs ovtune" or "xyz vs ovtune."

We created vf tuner for people to customize, expand, etc.

We provide the Legos, you build the castle.

By design, you buying KDMaxs tune supports us. And that's perfectly fine. The more people who provide tunes, services, etc, the more we can provide in the software for them.

Threads like this need to stop. It's not a competition. We aren't competing against KDmaxs tune, and it shouldn't be seen that way.

Buy from us directly you support us, but from another tuner you're still supporting us. but if the goal is to avoid supporting vf tuner, well that makes no sense because then all this cool stuff, cool tunes, future development goes away.

Is the performance aspect downshifting more than all the beta tunes or is it not having the ability to lock gears anymore.

That's your specific experience, but not the experience of the majority. There is more then. 10,000 trucks on 2.0 and the vast majority enjoy it.

Gearlock was removed and I have explained that also multiple times what we're doing with it.

The people who constantly complain or the ones who troll us fail to understand we have to provide tunes that or well for the vast majority of trucks. Which is why we created vf tuner for the folks doesn't work for

It gets tiring always defending the decisions we make so I just want to remind everyone that the changes made were the result of user input from this forum.
Lets use gearlock as an example. Great feature right?

Well actually the reviews were mixed, tons of people couldn't understand it and I've been personally blamed for breaking a person's truck because that person. Couldn't understand it. Nothing broke by the way.

I guess some people think it's just fun and games, talking shit and trolling. Because we get more of that then actual complaints that need attention.
It is fun right? No. This is my livelihood. I'll never forget the guy who jokes my tune burned his truck to the ground even though it was the California wildlife that did it.
That's a tuners worst nightmare. But to this forum, it's all fun and games.

So just want to remind that what is said on here is taken into account when we develop things.

Matt just gotta say you're appreciated. I would have likely been trading or selling my truck if it wasn't for vftune. Plus tuning other peoples trucks always puts a smile on both of our faces, and it has helped put food on the table for my family as a side gig. At the end of the day there's always going to be some A-hole who is looking to stir the shit pot. But the vast majority of us do respect you and appreciate and all the hard work you've put into it. Hopefully I'll be grabbing the protuner soon. And for the record the vftune tune pack files are badass too- hope everyone also realizes most of these custom tunes pretty much all used Matt's files as a baseline to tinker with.
