Looking to pay someone to tune my 17' 3rd Gen with the latest tune from ovtune. I know there's some weird software to laptop restrictions but I figured it would be possible to do multiple tacoma's and Id be willing to drop some cash instead of dropping $700 to be able to do it myself.

If you’re in so cal and looking for a tune. Message @trdquoc he was super easy to work with and got my 2021 running the way it should. It’s a night and day difference and only took 10 min!

I’m interested in tuning my 2021, do you mind telling us what tune you got and the differences you experienced?

Ya for sure. I had @trdquoc load the OV Base Tune for 87 octane.

I just got my Tacoma (my first ) and I love everything about it except two things: 1) I hate how the steering control for volume go left to right instead of up and down 2) the factory tune...To me the truck was rowdy in a bad way when I would punch it (getting on the freeway or passing). It felt like it would lag, then jump and jerk hunting for acceleration deep within the far reaches of itself. The power just seemed to be a bit schizophrenic and rough for what I would expect from Toyota and this truck in 2021. When I test drove the truck I was aware, through my research, that other owners were displeased with the tune. It didn’t deter me from buying the truck because i expected it and had a plan to address it.

Keep in mind that I fully recognize we are talking about a V6 but the factory tune for this motor just doesn’t make sense to me and my driving experience. It appears dazed and confused when you need it most.

At first I figured the pedal commander would help solve my displeasure with the factory power band, though I fully realize that installing one would be more of a band aid to address the sensation of power than addressing the actual tune itself. After reaching out to a fellow taco owner about purchasing his removed pedal commander, he expressed to me the difference his ov tune made. I didn’t buy his pedal commander and instantly started hunting for someone to install the tune for me, rather than do it myself. (It’s not that I’m intimidated by loAding a tune. I’m experienced with loading custom tunes in my motorcycles. I was just hoping that I could get a tune quicker from someone else, than wait for shipping and the back n forth for codes and numbers, etc. Also I’m based in MAC computers and my lame pc laptop is with a friend and his motorcycle build...)

I haven’t installed bigger tires yet and probably won’t for a good hot second. I don’t off road or drive over parked cars so if I end up lifting my rig it will be a minimal lift. I won’t be installing many after market parts like bumpers and light bars, so the weight of my rig probably isn’t going to change much. I will be keeping the Trd intake. My k&n air filter for factory intake should arrived this weds. I will be keeping factory exhaust as the aftermarket ones I have heard thus far don’t suite my taste. My needs for this truck are simple: I need it to carry my tools, my dog and my materials and I need it to GO! when I ask it to.

There are reviews that say the 91 base tune feels like it has recognizably better performance compared to the 87 AND that it improves gas mileage even better. I chose to stick with the 87 base tune as I am still learning this truck and was curious what the base ov tune would change. I was also being a bit cheap and the idea of filling my rig with 91 octane made my leg spasm near my left cheek pants pocket.

I met @trdquoc in a parking lot in Orange County. He couldn’t be nicer or more generous. The install took 5 minutes and he graciously answered all my questions about his experience of owning a 2020 decked out super clean Tacoma.

After the tune, and upon exiting the parking lot to head back towards the freeway, I punched the sucker just to see the difference which was instantly noticeable. The lag was gone. The truck didn’t jump into extreme rowdy rpms. It just WENT smoothly and how you would imagine it should off the show room floor. I caught up to @trdquoc and hollered at him with two thumbs up and a huge grin on my face; a 100% satisfied customer. Then I got back on the freeway, heading north to LA and punched it again just because I could.

With the new tune the truck isn’t lightening fast and definitely doesn’t accelerate like my wife’s Tesla model y (I apologize to those I just triggered) but the truck now feels right. It now feels dependable and matches my expectations of how I would tune the truck, if I was Toyota’s lead designer or motor programmer...I’m not sure which department is in charge of tuning but all I know is that the factory tune is garbage compared the ov base tune. The truck was great before the new tune. Now it’s even better. I was trying to explain the difference to a friend of my who owns a jeep on 33s and the best way I could describe the difference the OV tune makes is that the power in my rig now feels smooth and consistent in relation to the gas pedal. Before it felt like it was modeled after the Richter scale from the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake. Now it feels like a gradual smooth curve pointing upwards towards the heavens. It now feels like its performance matches my needs and is an equivalently related to the gas pedal. It also appears I’m getting around +2 miles in miles per gallon.

im very pleased I got this tune. I didn’t expect to get it before I tinted my front windows or finished de-badging my truck. To every new owner, I would highly recommend getting an ov tune first thing. And to every current owner on the fence about it, do it. After the tune, you’ll reflect back and ask yourself why you didn’t do it sooner.

I hope that answers the question, though it’s probably two words too many.

@Biff... I think @RippNSh!t just explained the base tune to a perfect tee. And thank you so much, I am not paying for his endorsement btw :kona:

Anyway I have 3 levels of tunes available now for whatever your heart desires. We just released our new KDMax tune in development with @PapaRee and @TWTaco .

    • $225 OVTune 2.0 (87 or 91+) - Base Tune (AT or MT)
    >This tune is an entry level tune that addresses the following; gear hunting, increased MPG, slight increase in power, and throttle response.

    • $250 KDTune (87 or 91+) - Sport Tune (AT or MT)
    >This tune is one step up from the Base Tune for those who desire a Sport Tune and feel, with increased throttle response, better MPGs, even more power, this is a great all around tune.

    • $300 KDMax (87 or 91+) - Performance Tune (AT or MT)
    > This tune combines all of our tuning knowledge from the previous options and is aimed toward the enthusiast who wants peak performance out of their Tacomas! We have further developed our mapping for peak power in low and high speeds, greater low end torque, smoother shifting, smoother acceleration, predictable shifting, even MORE MPGs and more!
