The Toyota engineers are also constrained by their requirement to do their tune on regular fuel whereas your tune requires premium?

Edit: disregard as I see you can select an 87 octane tune now.

I will be doing updates and work as time allows during my trip. I will not be completely unavailable.

I've been recommending the bench tune to my firends, but one question arises.
Will they have to revert back to the stock file to pass a California Smog Test when it rolls around?

Also, if ECU's are sent will there be someone there to sign for them while your away? for signature confirmation shipping?

Has anyone towed with the ovtune? Would like to know how did the truck performed. Mpg improved, better acceleration and what are you towing?

I towed with 'A' and I didn't feel the need for ECT. MPG was the same as the new trailer isn't very aerodynamic it seems. Only towing a 400lb trailer with a dirt bike.

Trying out C right now, very much enjoying this over A, smoother and more relaxing.

One goal is to not offend/scare anyone during the test drive, too. Selling to us old grandpas is not the same as selling to you young guns.

Maybe, but it was obvious who the advertising campaign was targeting when these trucks were released. I mean, videos of dudes jumping bikes, doing donuts, hot chicks, the works.

I think it was all centered around emissions and fuel economy regulations. Driveability/power on demand was obviously way down the list of priorities.

One thing interesting is that when Mat released 1.02C-shift he mentioned that you may see an immediate reduction in MPGs but that after some driving it should balance itself back out. Oddly, I never saw any dip in MPGs - stayed about the same from 1.01b on Shift A, but with Shift C with about 150 miles in (so learning is far from done at this point), it's actually consistently about 2 MPGs lower than it was with Shift A. I could honestly not care less about MPGs (to an extent of course) but was an interesting data point given the less aggressive 1st gear I would think it would use less fuel. Will see how things balance out over time, but for now I'm still feeling Shift C is superior in smoothness to Shift A (both are great though so it's just a personal preference of mine to have less of a rocket ship feeling each time I accelerate from a stop) :)

Well I loaded up the rtt, bed rack, dual jerry can holder and cans, propane tank, and most all my normal camping kit and took the truck out into the hill country west of Austin for a weekend of wheeling and camping. I am happy to report that not only did I average 16MPG over the whole weekend, which is the highest ive seen in my truck when fully loaded, the truck didnt feel like it had any additional weight. It handled it so well and the power was nice. I didnt feel any struggle to stay at speed even with a headwind. A Headwind and a uphill still had it downshifting, but it was expected on a couple of that larger "hills".

This tune keeps impressing me. I used Cruise Control and it still likes to downshift 1 extra gear vs me controlling the accelerator on those hills, but it wasnt as much of an issue as it was stock tune all loaded up with gear.

1.02C_C 91 oct is the way to go IMO. It's butter when you want it to be, and hauls when you need it.

You raise a good point - I'm stock wheels/tires and 1st seemed too aggressive and edgy sometimes. It was still awesome, but after comparing to C_C it is a better driving experience for MY truck. Makes sense that if you have bigger / heavier tires and/or wheels the more aggressive 1st would be less pronounced and actually undo some of the lethargy you may have gotten by adding the weight / size.

Lately I’ve been working remotely a lot and when in my office downtown I’ve been avoiding rush hour for the last couple of months. Yesterday was the first time I’ve sat in a bottlenecked stop and go commute since 1.02c.

Wow! I was actually smiling ear to ear a few times because the doggishness of this truck is gone wub 1.02c-c. Power never felt choked, acceleration smooth, just easy to drive all around! And after about 175mi, my MPGs have balanced back out as OV indicated it would. My first half tank I was getting about 16 combined but I’m now back to 19 which is normal with the weight I have bolted onto the truck.

    Happy
