Argghh, y'all are making me go back & forth. Try to jump in on Black Friday for OV's tune or just pass and spend the money towards some other stuff people have on TW. Only so much play $$$

Not that we know of at this time. He actually tried limiting the shift maps so it would have less to "learn from" but that caused bigger issues like it either shifting to fast or not shifting up when it needed to so he had to pull those out and revert to a far more complex exercise of remapping 1200 maps (there are 100 maps for each of 12 different shift settings in the ECU) along with the torque maps to match them so he did a ton of work on the shifting for these and it shows after flash for sure. But there's some other gremlin apparently still hiding that messes with those even it would seem.

They probably put those checks in there on purpose to keep someone like y'all from fixing what they fucked up.

Yes, throttle response is much better and more fun with the tune, I couldn't imagine e going back to stock.

I forgot to add I have TRD CAI, stock exhaust and +1 tires (275x70 r17).

Buy the tune and don't question it - the great thing about this whole process is that we are a community and by sharing experiences on here it provides important feedback to the developer (OVTune) to improve the tune over time. There is likely not a single person who is saying "man that was a waste of $800" because as it's been mentioned, even on a bad day the tune runs infinitely better than stock on a good day (such as after you clear the learning with a battery disconnect on stock). Predictable throttle response (i.e. no dead pedal feeling) alone are worth the cost to many... The shifting bit is just harder to pinpoint and at the least the tune seems to hold onto good shifting habits longer than stock. On stock I'd be pretty happy after I reset things for 100-200 miles and it would quickly degrade to that bogged down in 6th feeling with the delayed downshift that resulted in a SLAM into 3rd or 4th at high RPMs. How on earth that can be good for reliability is beyond me... and I've never experienced that on any version of the tune.

Yeah, all the problems you're mentioning drive me crazy. I can't just check for clear distance & pass somebody, I also have to try to figure how the truck is going to behave when I ask it to go fast before I make a move.

I've got over 1000 miles on 1.02C (C) and have not really noticed a degradation in peformance. I do notice it still downshifts to 4th pretty easy but seems to be able to hold 5th more than stock and truck is simply faster. Some of the degradation in performance and MPG some are seeing may be due to winter fuel blends that always dropped my mileage and performance on my 2nd gen and this 3rd gen. My last tank per fuelly was 20.9 and that including about 1/2 the tank driving over passes in Colorado with the tent on. Will be heading up to Vail this weekend without the tent on and will update. Still loving this tune!

Don't know if it makes a difference with this weird ass learning ECU or not, but I have driven my truck like I stole it since I bought it.

I've wondered about this. Let's say you have a reset ECU with no learning and all you do is motor back and forth to work around 45 mph with stop and go and no real need for hard acceleration or running the RPM up. Maybe the shift maps learn to upshift super early over time and then the truck feels boggy. My truck sees a mix of driving on city and hwy.

I run with the ECT button on all the time and if I am not driving a long distance where I need cruise, I turn all nanny traction shit off. Then it's on like neck bone.

it isn't the shift maps as I have eliminated the shuffling with the upshift for each gear in the 1.02C maps.

it's the 16 way transmission shift torque target tables. These tables will be selected based on how you drive. If you drive like an absolute grandma for 3 weeks, it will use the torque table that is most efficient with that style of driving, as a result the truck will drive that way.

The next step is finding a way to eliminate all other transmission torque target tables. It will happen.

I have had no performance degrade on 1.02C (A) and have >2K on it. It is much stronger than stock file. My gas mileage is still better than stock and I am in the throttle more than before because I like the increased power. response is not unpredictable at all and shifting has remained stable. Leave the file in for 2K and see what you have then. Learning is continues not just a onetime deal.
I do have the lag at times between 1-2nd but that has been there from day one with this load. Never had the down shifting issue. I did buy this for more torque not the other issues that maybe most bought for. I would say there is still more power on the table.

exactly what I was wondering. I don't drive like an idiot but my truck does see a lot of time on the hwy and when I am heading up passes, I did not nanny it. Truck routinely sees higher RPM, high load situations. It will drop to 4th and then it moves like it never did before.

This would explain why I don't have he shifting issue. I drive it like a rental and have from day one.

Don't drive like an idiot either, but my other ride is a massaged over 2017 Charger with lights everywhere, kinda gets to be a habit.

I thought you can clear the learned values with the software we have from the tune? DTC reset or something like that.

In the way future, these will also take traffic and maps into account hopefully. I drive moderately (and often aggressively) when I can. But when I'm in the city, rush hour = the truck thinking I WANT to drive like a grandma and then when I break free of traffic on some weekends to take trips it still wants to drive conservatively like I want to putter along at 20 mph in traffic. Fun stuff, let me tell ya

It would be awesome if you got your hands on a 3.5L Auto even if you bought a good 2016 used, leveraged it for some final R&D, and then resell it and get the vast majority of that investment back (+ all the add'l sales). I know data will tell you most if not all you need to know but it really takes a lot of driving on this truck to see and feel how it changes over time and short street drives following recent flashes don't show the full picture.

That said, I know if you're looking to make an investment an M/T or even a 4.0 is probably a more FUN option you'd enjoy more than our autos... ;)
