Agree, the initial process of getting this going is a bit confusing and frustrating for some - but this is a one-time pain. Once you get it all set up it's as easy as downloading something off the app store (almost)... and you are in full control of which tune you want to throw on (or even stock) within 5 mins or less.

    No pain, no gain :)

Edit: And Mat's working on simplifying this process so likely the pain the early adopters have gone through will pave the way to an easier process moving forward (You're welcome!..ha)

Then why quote my post on bench flashing?

that was my mistake. i thought the question was "how does the flash process work" since that's the question of the century in the original thread. i know what a bench flash is but thought someone was assuming this is one and you need to physically send in your ECU, which you do not. excuse the confusion.

I just swapped from 1.02c 91octane over the to 87 for winter, even with the stock power driving this thing is still a blast compared to stock. Throttle Response & shift points are perfect.
I'm very happy to finally 110% love this truck.
Can't wait for spring so I can go back to 91 tune a throw my Jumping Jack trailer behind it!

OP, do you have any customers in SoCal who would let me take their truck for a spin? I might pull the trigger on this depending on the drive. That's probably a good way to sell this product.

Maybe come up with a referral program?

If someone wanted to do this I don't mind but I will respectfully decline hosting an idea. If someone crashes someone else's truck mid drive... it could get ugly fast.

Also for AT transmission folks who are interested in the bench flash I plan to run a special bench flash group buy soon. As I am going to be out of remote kits until close to december.

Overnight your ECU to us. 1-2 hours flashing time, overnight return. 3-4 days turn around from leaving you back to you

I don't think this is entirely true. Your dealer can't tell with their current tools, but Toyota absolutely can tell. Now the chances of Toyota looking at your ECU is slim to none. Techstream could be updated for the dealer to tell, but I also think the chances of that are low.

i feel like if there was an issue with a truck caused by a tune. The dealer would just factory flash the ecu them selves before digging into it to tell if it was tuned.

So we could spend 500$ on a bench flash just to have dealer update the kit in a year or few months from now then have to spend another 500$?

No, you just reflash your tune again. Do not need to repurchase it.

Bench flash! He's talking about Bench flash! If dealer wipes it, how do you reload the tune?

If this happens we will reflash it for you no fee.

if we receive any ECUs that are not on the latest cal version we will update them internally with techstream before flashing. I think 04B03 is Toyotas final version. I don't see another update happening.

    Opps my apologies!
You would probably just have to send the ecu back out to Matt.

I didnt see the answer and sure a few have this question now or in future as I am intersted in the flash. Is there a thread on how to remove ecu? Will truck drive without it (i’m assuming no) and if its lost in mail whats a Tacoma ECU cost to replace.

    Thanks!

I don't have instructions at this time but will work on some here soon.
Truck will not run without it.
used ECU that just need techstream recal goes for 180-250 online. If you use a carrier like fedex there is slim chance of it getting lost.

Agreed, my experience with 1.02C-A is similar regarding 4-5 and 5-6 shifting.

1.02C-A is perfect for me with ECT on.

    @OVTune

If you do this, I would suggest you offer an upgrade path to the "dongle version" once you have them back in stock that would make the bench flash + "dongle upgrade" not too much more money than just a "dongle flash." This would encourage folks who really want the "dongle flash" to not wait till
December (or longer)...just an idea.

I would be in on a bench flash group buy with dongle upgrade later once available.
