I’ve never used the pedal commander but have had OVTune now for about 4 months. If you’re extremely patient and don’t mind putting up the expensive price tag to wait it out until a tune pack is available for your truck I’d definitely pull the trigger. I’m still waiting for a Gearlock 5.29 tune 4 months later but hopefully it will happen soon!

I love it and it makes the truck drive and shift so much better. and it sounds like eventually we’ll be able to tune our own trucks.

Just have to have a lot of patients but it sounds like it will all be worth it.

That’s the rabbit hole I am talking about. Already been down last year with my motorcycle. Going to wait and see what OVTune comes out with.

My bad, that was not a helpful comment. I shouldn't post when I am frustrated at work.
OP Go with OV Tune all the way. I have had it for a few months now and really like it.

Base this on your computer skills. People will say the OVTune is "so easy", and maybe to peeps with computer knowledge it is.
I struggled. I have read where many have struggled.
I've installed the 1.05 tune around the beginning if the year and since then its changed and if you read the 15000+ comments in the OVTune thread there is some confusion (IMO)
Again, base this decision on your understanding level.

What about Pedal Commander for throttle response and Shiftsense Pro for better shift points? Both are plug and play with a few options. That said, the OVtune does more with temps and other stuff, but it sounds like the OP simply wants straight forward and not remapping or software altering products. I could be way off base though.

If you are going to use both, might as well just get OVTune.

Also, you do not need to remap or mess with the tune.
Just use the default VFTuner tunes, flash an go.
Even the sample tunes offer more than what Pedal Commander and Shift Sense Pro can do combined.
Once everything is set up, plug Tactrix Cable to OBD2, click flash, and done.

VFTuner also goes for $199, and I believe PC alone goes for as much.

Want better eco on 87? There is that. Want performance on 93? There is that too.

Pedal commander is an overpriced bandage to the Tacoma’s piss poor thought out power train system. If you want to vastly improved the performance/economy then you need to get ovtune.
Re-gear + Ovtune is even better.

Not sure why anyone wastes their money on pedal commanders. That’s some wanna be Tokyo drift shit. Like putting a spoiler on a 93 civic.

Alright, is this a lesson to be learned? So I need to ditch the PC and the SSP for a Tactrix Cable and a VFTune? In the past I’ve used programmers with tunes already installed ie: Superchip/Hypertech. Did OVtune ever fix the programming to work on iOS or do I still need to buy a windows laptop just to download the software for flashing. I don’t mean to hijack OPs thread, but it still seems relevant to the topic.

    Sadly windows only.
But VFTuner might work through Bootcamp.

OV Tune replied and said I would need to buy both the software ($199) as well as the Tacoma 3.5L Tune Pack ($390). Is there a way to do it with just purchasing the software?

Band-Aid my ass. It does what it says and fixes throttle lag. I have been using it and combined with the tsb58 it made my driving experience a lot better. It fixes it and stays that way until removed, so a band-aid is a bad description of a temp fix. I have no other issues that need addressing so yes the Sprint booster worked perfectly fine for my needs. I'm not interested in other tune parameters so for a couple of hundred bucks it's worth it. Sprint booster is the orginal designer, better warranty and easier to conceal, plus once it's set you can remove it. I did set mine at sport 7 and it's perfect.
