A while back I was trying to find a way to get this crap off as well. One of the best (worst) remedy's I saw on YouTube was a guy used motor oil and sand paper to remove it. Seriously.

I ended up just replacing the ones on the front windows - they're not that expensive and you can change them in about 5 minutes. I guess I'll live with the rear window. I have a camper top now, so out of sight out of mind.

Interesting to see this as I was just looking at mine last night wondering what to clean it with.....looks like vinegar may be a good choice then hit it with some back to black protection maybe?

I used scotch brite, worked pretty well.
Make sure to tape off the glass and paint so it does not get scratched

In the trade....for mold abatement you put a dab of bleach on a Qtip and test the area. If the are stays black its not mold.....anyway you look at it you will need to clean the area and remove any debris from the area. Check the surface area for integrity and repair/restore as required.

I made a mixture of vinegar and a little water in a spray bottle and sprayed mine this morning and let it sit for an hour and then repeated about an hour latter, then wiped with a paper towel with more vinegar.
The paper towel had all this black and green crud on it and quite a bit came off. I’m going to repeat the process until it’s all gone and then apply either 303 or silicone.

Use a cleaner (vinegar or I used Simple Green) and 3M dark red/maroon colored pad and it comes off and leaves the rubber smooth and consistent look ready for some Back to Black. Tape on paint to protect it and if you fold the pad its easy to stay on the rubber.

You will find that Back to Black (and 303 Aerospace Protectant) will come off in the next wash or rain storm. Ask me how I know that.

I agree, I had used 303 on that area before, trying to stop it from getting worse. It really never worked good because it didn’t last. I think this time I will try silicone from a tube and rub it in real good. I have some silicone that is used on pool plumbing so I will give that a go.

This has been bothering me for some time. Sounds like some good suggestions but no definitive answer/process. Let’s all update this thread as we work on our trim.

    Had for years.
    Tried different things.
I’ve made it look better, but it just comes back.
I leave it alone now. It’s like the more time you spend making it look “better”.
The faster it comes back? :itllbuffout:
