I'm planning a 10 day trip in August and I'm looking at hitting Ozark NF and Ouachita NF on my trip. Any recommendations for good trails in either? Is camping allowed anywhere along the trails? I've been told that you can camp anywhere you want in the Ozark NF but I'm having a difficult time finding any solid info on the NF websites.

Any info on good solo trails would be greatly appreciated.

My routing for this trip will be Palm City, FL up to Russellville, AR, then on to The Smoky Mountains for more camping and then back down through Helen, GA on the way home.

Sub'd. I'm curious about Ouachita myself. Gonna be making an overnight stop there on our way to Overland Expo later this year. Hot Springs, AR is the closest to our route and the Park.

Each National Forest publishes a booklet/pamphlet on what roads/trails are open to motorized traffic, get a copy from the FS office in Russellville. In the Ozark NF, there is an area accessed from AR Hwy 7 (north of Russellville and Dover)called Moccasin Gap Horse Trail, actually multiple trails, and motorized traffic is allowed on some of it. Also a campground, no hook-ups. Both old dirt/gravel logging roads, and trails that are horse/ATV only. Highly recommended!
