Weird... Those brand new tires cost at least $1100 from discounttire. So a SAS for $1900. Oh, excuse me, $1890.

What are you even running for gears? Did you skip out on those too and expect to crawl with your 3.73s?

You must be just dumb. I said 2990 and it wasnt counting tires and the tires cost 1115 with insurance and 4 new rims. No I didnt not skip out on gears. You guys are really trying hard to make this seem impossible. Just put the shocks and shock towers on today and made my steering shaft.

Hey guys, sorry I'm late to the party. But all this talk has inspired me. I was wondering if there's any way to do a full SAS for under like 50 bucks?

PTree, got a used frog axle? Have fun spinning your stock axle shafts in half because you didn't wanna go cromali. next time be a man and throw some full width chevy axles under neath, get an LS1 motor, gear it down to 3.06 and go wheeling like a man!!

3k for a SAS means used parts which translates to shit parts. I hope you enjoy working on the truck, cause you're gonna have to pull the hubs out constantly when they break cause you didn't get Warn, or break teeth off your 20 spline axle shafts.

If you want somethin to work well on your truck, you don't work with a budget. That way, you don't go cheap. Cheap means trouble.

I have blocks because I work a shit job. I've had my fair share of rock crawlers. My Tacoma isn't the only thing I've owned.

98 Wrangler Dana 35 front, Dana 44 rear. Custom built drive lines, 4.56 gears, ARB front and rear, 4:1 t-case with 6" rubicon express.

Don't come barking at me Larry

Not to mention my friends have 87 4Runners we used to crawl with. We have done 2 SAS's at my friends house using old Yota axles. They cut every corner imaginable, and what'd they get out of it? Me towing them out of the Rubicon everytime we went.

I agree with Larry. Give the guy some credit that he atleast stuck to his guns. And despite all the criticism from the very first post, if he did in fact keep it under budget his build is looking pretty decent.
I for one am not buying this "If you aint got $10k to put into it, then your gonna have a shitty build" theory.
With the right hookups, most of your major components, ie. 60's, 44's, 12 bolts, 9's.
If you can't fab, surely you know someone that can and will.

Give the kid a break. Atleast he's not one of the several people that have talked about it....and done NOTHING. right?

We have a pretty small crowd in the sas scene unlike some of the other forums and any insight on any build is appreciated.
Shame on you guys for giving this kid so much shit.

    For instance.

Taken from an ad on a local 4x4 website.

Dynatrac Front D60 / rear D60, 35 splines, Howe hydro assist.
Dana 60's dynatrac axles plus hydro-assist:
For sale, i have a front dynatrac dana 60 axle. It is completely built and ready to bolt up to your next project. It has 4.10 gears with a detroit locker. Warn hubs, and 35 spline shafts. More pics available from request.
    Passenger Drop
    Full Width
    Pre-High-pinion style

I have a rear d60 axle for sale also completely built and ready to bolt up to your next project. The axle housing has been bored to fit 35 spline axle shafts. The rear axle has a true spool (not welded) and also 4.10 gears.

Both axles are completely built from hub to hub and are COMPLETELY ready to go. They have only ever been bolted up to one truck and it was an old jeep j10.

I will sell both axles for $3200 FIRM. The front axle alone retails for $7299. If you want both axles along with the hydro assist setup, i will knock some money off the price.

    NEXT

For sale i have a Howe Performance steering set-up. It includes the ram, the hoses, their high-pressure pump, remote reservoir with filter and the rebuilt / upgraded Saginaw steering box, along with pitman arm. this all has been bolted up but never actually used. $750. The box was rebuilt by Howe and ported for the hydro assist, and the pump was gone through along with a new slick pulley.

If you would like to buy both the axles and the hydro assist, i will sell both in a package deal for $3000 CASH! The first seller to meet me with cash takes the axles and steering.

So lets say you dump $3k on these.
Another $3k will go along way on springs, adapters, extended brake lines, perches, custom driveshafts, whatever.
You fab it all yourself with the help of a few good friends and you mean to tell me you cant do this for $6k?
