Driving home from work today my ultra gauge alarm went off and it said pending tc p0022. I googled it when I got home and it said camshaft position sensor. Before I go any further, I thought I would check with you guys. I have an 07 4.0. The check engine light is not on. Just says pending...any help is appreciated!

Clear it, and see if it comes back. Pending codes are codes thrown when the ECU detects something at the extreme of its operating range, but still within normal operational limits.

    P0022 - Camshaft Position "A" - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 2)

cam timing: With warm engine and engine speed of between 500 rpm and 4,000 rpm, all conditions (a), (b) and (c) met (2 trip detection logic)

    (a) Difference between target and actual intake valve timings more than 5°CA (Crankshaft Angle) for 4.5 seconds.

    (b) Current intake valve timing fixed (timing changes less than 5°CA in 5 seconds)

    (c) Variations in VVT controller timing 19°CA or less of maximum delayed timing (retarded)

    Causes:

    • Valve timing
    • Oil control valve (OCV)
    • OCV filter
    • Camshaft timing gear assembly
    • ECM

From what I understand the most common problem is the Oil Control Valve and / or Filter.

    parts and stuff

It's pretty much beneath the front exhaust port on each head. U will see a bolt just chilling there and it's behind the bolt. The bolt is what olds the filter in.
