Then you didn't read them properly.

Not to mention your initial argument was about temps constantly dropping suddenly because of the thermostat opening. Which would likely be true under normal IF it fully opened and allowed full flow as soon as possible and never shut gradually to control flow. But the entire reason it opens in the first place is because it is shut to allow the coolant to come up to temperature. It then opens (gradually) and controls the flow. Everything I'm talking about is under normal circumstances. Not "well this one case you can overheat" which would happen were the system fully functioning properly anyway. Normal circumstances which the cooling system was designed for in the first place. And then it won't ever reach the proper temperature, or will take forever to do so depending how open it is stuck.

Got it - my bad - wasn't reading what you wrote clearly enough. Kind of thought you were going to tell OP not to give the system a test. A lot of people just say load the cannon and shoot. This might be a $15 part and doesn't make for a simple test. I like to verify my failures from an acute OCD problem haha!

All good, man. My bad if I did come across that way. I was just trying to give OP my experience because I've had this exact issue before. Not saying that IS what it is, but it's what I believe it to be based on the info. But, you're right, tests definitely help verify that. Fortunately we're talking about some $20 parts and some coolant here and not potentially $300 parts!

Sorry, we sort of hijacked your thread. Did you get anything fixed yet?

Yeah, those gauges look much better! I always get that "engine is running smoother" feeling after fixing my car. Usually it is a placebo effect, but still. And yes, without resetting the code, you'd have to drive a few times to get it to recognize it is functioning as normal and turn off the light.

I'm glad it worked! Just be sure to check your radiator/radiator overflow to make sure your coolant is topped off. Obviously, not while it is hot. Other than that, I'm glad we could help!

The code reader should be able to tell you if the drive cycle monitors are ready or not. Somewhere in the reader's menu you can find it. It'd not a big concern unless you need a smog test very soon.
