So I got this code about 3-4 days ago and yesterday I bought some MAF cleaner and tackled that. However, I only sprayed one of the bulbs I could see without actually removing the entire MAF. It tripped again last night so do you think it needs to be completely taken out and cleaned with the MAF cleaner? It is still saying fuel system running too lean. Also, I had a pretty dirty air filter. Not sure if that would contribute or not! Thanks everyone!

Its best for you to take the MAF sensor off to clean it. Make sure not to touch the little sensors inside. Clean it and let it air dry for about 30 minutes. Also change your air filter. If that doesn't help, then you may need a new one

I had the same code and it took me forever to finally figure it out.
Turned out that i had alot of rust in my fuel tank and the strainer was clogged up causing it to stave for fuel.

Every time I have it the MAF sensor just needs to be cleaned. Take it out and spray it good.

I chased this code for awhile too. Turned out to be fuel pressure issue. Changed the fuel pump, and it went away. Same thing happened to my 3rd gen 4runner. Only difference in the 4runner and the tacoma was the tacoma's fuel pump was weak for awhile, and never really noticed any issue until I tested the fuel pressure. 4runner fuel pump started acting up, and bit the bucket within a week.

I doubt it's your MAF, especially if you just cleaned it, and it's still showing.
