I have had an issue of poor throttle response and rough idle for a while now, so I decided to get off me a#@ and fix it. Went to the Auto store and found I had a P0174 and p0171 code in the truck (06 V6 late year Prerunner). A quick search led me to Throttle Position Sensor, cleaned throttle body = no change. Since it was gummed up I "figured" that it was the culprit, $485.95 later the truck is better but still has the same codes and same issue, if not as bad. More google lead to Mass Air Flow sensor cleaning, $95.50 and a new sensor... again better but still have similar issue. and I am assuming the same codes. Last time I had the reader it was saying Bank 1 too lean while I was reading the codes and clearing after MAF swap. Do I just go ahead and spend the $400 on O2 sensors, or is there a better way to dial into the actual problem? Or am I just wasting my money? let the beating commence......

    Start with vacuum hoses.
Have you checked the PCV Valve and hose.
Do you have an exhaust leak?

You're just throwing money at it. Bring it somewhere that knows these trucks.

Unless you have an actual scanner and are going to use reliable parts, stop messing with it and take it somewhere where they know what they are doing, and know what things to look for.

How many miles? Your fuel pump could be getting clogged. I just ordered the URD kit because there’s no changeable filter on the Tacomas.

Did not see a P0170 code in the FSM

    Google came up with this:

The P0170 code means that the powertrain control module is detecting a fuel trim that is outside the range of specification set by the vehicle's manufacturer. This can mean a negative fuel trim or a positive fuel trim has been detected.

What follows is from the FSM

It's a P0171 code not a P0170. Lean on bank 1 and 2 basically. It could be MAF, injectors, or a fuel pump or a combination of things. Without proper data to help diagnose, we can't do nothing for him.

I'm telling you, if he can't even post up the right codes, he should NOT be fucking with his truck.

As I said let the beating commence. I greatly appreciate the correction and direction.

Reminds me of a saying my father had. There was 1 thing wrong with it. The owner fixed 6 things and now there's 7 things wrong with it.
