P0302 code Limp mode at 3000 rpms

    2017 Tacoma 3.5L v6, 106k miles
    P0302 CODE

    PLEASE HELP
    * I have replaced spark plugs & injectors.
    * I have moved around coil packs.
    (Ripp supercharge coil packs)
    * I have replaced crank sensor.
    * I have check compression in cylinder 2 & 5. Both have good compression. (checked #5 for comparison to #2 and it was the easiest to reach.)

    Still getting the same code P0302.
    I can’t figure this out. I was scared to death that I had a bad valve but the compression is good. And when I restart the truck it runs fine. But once it hits 3000 rpms boom, back into limp mod.
    or if I put it where I shift the gears and let it slowly accelerate it will go to 6000 but once I get to 4th gear and the rpms get around 3000, it’ll do it again, boom back into limp mode.

    It’s baffling.


    Any Help will be greatly appreciated, I really need it. Thank you

    Put the oem coil back onto cylinder two and see what happens.

    Good luck. Hope you get it figured out Jordan. You need to find those stock coil packs to rule that out. Or just buy one to put in for that bad cylinder.

    I have moved the coil packs around twice now. You still think it’s the coil packs. They are (Ripp supercharger) coil packs

    I haven’t done any work in the truck in over 6 months. So nothing new lately.
    But it has the tune, exhaust, ripp supercharger coil packs with iridium plugs.

    @PapaRee might have beta on this, the direct inectors might "take over" under high load / high rpms on the stock calibration. Unsure tho. Needs a real diagnoses, to be certain.

    Yes. That’s true on the stock tune too. At higher loads and higher rpm, direct injection is 100%.

    Below are a few snippets from the FSM. You're certainly hitting some of the culprits. Worth watching this video if you're thinking about replacing a direct injector--very advanced DIY...

    If you have techstream and are going to do an injector test, the TSB on how to do it is attached.

    Get yourself a scanner that records real-time data, or have a professional do it for you. Otherwise you're just throwing parts it and hoping something sticks.
