If you follow the directions you can get it running like new for a good while. Lol, a friend at work had similar symptoms. I told him to go get some Barr's and trade it in. he thought I didn't know what I was talking about. One day it overheated on the way. He paid to have it towed to the shop. They said it was a bad thermostat and changed it. Next day on the way home from work, overheated again. Paid for another tow to the shop. This time they said there was just air bubbles in the lines and purged it. He came to work bragging that I was wrong. I said, well in 5 days we will see. (It takes about 5 days for enough gas from these tiny leaks to build up in the lines). 5 days later, on the way home from work... Overheated. Towed it to the shop, this time mechanic said "man I think it's your head gasket, I'd put some sealant in it and go trade it in". That's what he did, but after wasting about $500 on tows and mechanics, lol!

It's on 1GR-FE engines manufactured before November 2005. In November 2005 Toyota recognized the problem and redesigned the Head Gasket.

The faulty part of the HG is the small seal between cyl 4 and 6. So sometimes 4 is affected, usually 6 though.

I know about the revised HG and in those cases the HG will usually start leaking after 65k or so, also effected 2006 models as well. I believe the revised HG came at the end of the 2006 model year with 2007 models and up having the revised HG.

Mines a 2008 with nearly 300k and is leaking at #4. Considering the amount of time, miles and conditions while on the trail that my Tacoma has been through.. I'm not even mad, just impressed it's taking this long to develop a HG leak. There are many other 2007+ that has also developed a HG leak at bank 2.
