I have a 2007 Tacoma with the 1GR-FE engine (4.0L 6 cylinder). The truck has been sitting for a couple months while I was out of town up until last Thursday. The truck and it starts right up, but After letting it idle for a couple minutes the check engine light turns on and starts flashing. When I drive the car, its a rough ride especially at about 1500 rpm with a significant loss of power. I hook up my OBDII reader and it shows P0303. I look under the hood and see that the wires for the fuel injector on cylinder 3 were chewed (maybe by a squirrel because of all the acorns* on top of the engine). I first tried to cut out the chewed area of the wires and re-solder the connector. The engine is still running rough and showing code P0303. So I went ahead and replaced the fuel injector pigtail connector for cylinder 3 as well as the fuel injector and spark plugs. Engine is still running rough without a decrease in power and showing code P0303. I also tried swapping the coils between the cylinders and misfire code always points to cylinder 3. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. The Toyota dealer near me is closed on Sundays, so I have to wait until Monday to take it in.

Anyone else have any idea of what I can check or try for the mean time to get the truck back up and running? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The squirrels may have chewed further back in the cable than you think.

I'm sorry your having problems, have you taken a compression reading on the cylinder?

Thanks guys. I don't have any tools on hand to measure compression. I'll take it to the dealership tomorrow morning and hope I still have some pockets left.

Thanks guys. So the dealership basically repeated everything I did and still had the same problems. They diagnostics was showing that the fuel injector was not receiving any power. They believe that a short may have happened and fried the ECM. So I just ordered an ECM and I'll replace the ECM once it arrives.
