You should have one of these for the radiator to make sure all air is out,

Thanks! And thanks also for the tip on getting hoses from oreilly's. If it doesn't make a difference, I'll just buy generic hoses from the auto parts shop.

Yes haha I love where I live

Hey all, I've been thinking over potential course of action as far as my new P0171 light. One thing I want to do is go back in and double check my work from the injector install. If I start removing the throttle body and plenums, am I going to have to replace all the gaskets that I just replaced or do you think I'll be okay?

Thanks! My wiring harness is totally cracked and almost 100% of the OEM harness is gone.
Since my last post I gave my MAF a really good cleaning once again; No change to the CEL code.
By the way, I learned how to use the cheap scan tool I picked up and got this data about fuel trim, etc.

To be honest I'm not really sure what this means, does this indicate anything to you?

Your short and long fuel trims are very high, they should be around 0 at idle or plus and minus 10 when driving.

Yours are at 19 -20, that’s when you get a code.

This can be from a hand full of things.

    Fuel pump,
    Fuel filter
    02 sensor
    Fuel injectors
    MAF sensor
Exhaust leak before the 02 sensor.

    ANY VACUUM LEAK

Yep, started replacing all vacuum lines today. It's going pretty well but have to get some hoses at another auto parts store since AutoZone near me didn't have everything. While I was working today, I pulled off the PCV hose and sprayed starter fluid in, to see if the O2 sensor would pick up a rich condition - I assume this would work, right? Anyway, it never tripped a rich code on my reader

You actually use the staring fluid spray on the hose connectors or any places you think there might be a vacuum leak, the PCV valve, to see if the rpms go up while the engine is at idle.
If the idle goes up when spraying an area or hose connection that means there’s a leak there.

Fuel regulator can cause this code too

I got that as far as testing for vac leaks, I was just trying to test the O2 sensor to see if its faulty (see if it would pick up rich condition or not), is there a better way to test it?

Not sure, I think there is an ohms range also I think the sensor can get fouled with dirt, carbon and change the performance of the 02 sensor.

I'll look into testing it, but I might replace the upstream one if doing the vac lines does not solve the issue

As long as it’s an original DENSO item.

I’ve bought DENSO items before that were fake and in the fake DENSO box, this is tricky

Been a little busy lately, but I finally stopped putting this off and found the time to address the issue. Last weekend I got the truck smoke tested and confirmed my fears following the original fuel injector replacement. The injectors were not properly seated, which was causing the vacuum leak. Yesterday I started working to address the issue. It didn't start well, since I snapped the fuel rail (tab that is bolted down to the engine) while I was removing it. But I was lucky enough to find one in good shape at my local junkyard out of a 5VZ 4Runner. So I completed the work today, this time sure to fully seat the fuel injectors. I didn't realize how hard I needed to press to get them in place! It took some serious elbow grease. After buttoning it back up, it started easily. It seems a bit quicker to turn over than before. Took it for a drive about 50 miles. It's the first time my scanner is showing green "0 DTC" after clearing the codes, whereas previously it would show a yellow LED and then soon after the CEL would come back on. It seems to be doing okay. My only concern is that I can still hear some knocking when I'm sitting inside the cab. I'm not sure if I'm hearing things or if there's definitely a problem still! Hope it stays running well and doesn't throw a code for this again!

Revisiting an old thread here-- my CEL came on last week ( P3030 cyl# 3 misfire) I replaced all 6 sparkplugs and new #3 ignition coil, cleared the code but am still getting misfire. Strange thing is that misfire doesn't happen right away, truck starts all fine in the morning, I would go to a location (work, grocery shopping, friends house etc..) parked, then when I go to start it up, truck shakes in idle and while driving, which feels like a misfire issue. I don't think it's Fuel injector because that would happen consistently not intermittently, maybe Im wrong?

Results (psi) from Compression Test today:
    1: 220, 3: 215, 5: 220
    2: 205, 4: 185, 6: 195

Are those reasonable range of differences? Truck is a '99 with 165k miles I use regular 87 octane. I would like to not replace more parts that I dont need to, can anyone give me advice on what else should I be looking at next? Thanks a lot in advance.

I’m going thru the same thing. I clear my p0303 code and the it comes back on after a few miles after doing all changing everything out. Thinking of changing my fuel injectors.
