My wife came home without the truck yesterday. She said it was running rough and then the check engine light came on. She put the truck in neutral and coasted into our development, then walked home.

I retrieved the truck and put my code reader to work - P0305, misfire in cylinder five. This is actually good news because cylinder five is the easiest to get to. I disconnected the two connectors and pulled the igniter. Hmm, some debris. I blew it out and checked the plug, which was fine. Igniter.

I called the local dealership which had two in stock. $132 and half an hour later I replaced the igniter (which was the original), cleared the codes, and voila, my truck is purring like a kitten.

This was one of the fastest and most trauma-free repairs I can remember.
