    Hey there,

So my Tacoma will start up fine (no starter or battery issue), run for 1-2 seconds and then stall once it appears to hit 1000 rpm. The CEL gives a p0351 code which is a ignition coil issue in cylinder 1.

The previous owner said he replaced the coils a little over a year ago. I recently replaced the spark plugs and cleaned the MAF.

But I'm just curious what could be causing it. After I cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor, it started fine, the CEL went off and all was well. That was Friday. Now it's Monday. This morning it started up fine at 5:30am and again it started fine around 10am. Around 1pm it returned to it's start-stall pattern.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

Try swaping to coils from, say #1 to #3. See if the fault code changes.

Get the FSM. Get to the ECU behind the glovebox. Use the FSM to locate the pins corresponding from the plugs connecting to the coil to the pins on the plug connecting to the ECU. Use a voltmeter and compare impedance between the pins. All values should be in line with each other or within limits listed in the FSM. Do the same with continuity on the ground side. If this checks out then you can rule out the connection between the components and focus on either the ECU or the coils.

Is this affecting the o2 sensor reading? A lean condition can cause a misfire which would prevent the coil from breaching the spark plug gap and completing a circuit.

I should add that the truck has never had the problem first thing in the morning when it's cold out. This always happens when the truck has been driven somewhere.

Heat has a huge effect on electrical components.
