My check engine light recently came on and had it checked out at an auto parts store, they gave me the trouble code P0408 but couldn't explain what was the cause of this or even possible solutions. I have a '05 tacoma double cab with 139k miles, I was wondering if anybody else has had this same problem and what you did to fix it, thanks in advance for any advice.

It could be an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve issue. I had this issue on a '99 Chevy and had the valve/solenoid replaced which fixed the issue.

Funny I don't see that code listed in the service manual... ???

I also do not see an EGR Valve for the Tacoma.

The closest code I see is a P0418 for the air injection system.

I will get it scanned once again, perhaps they gave me the trouble code of somebody else's vehicle. Either way thanks again for the advice. If I find the solution I will post it.

Just to follow up on the issue that I had and that trouble code that appeared on my truck, turns out that the secondary oxygen sensor on the drivers side was the issue. I can't remember whether or not that P0408 was the code that appeared when my friend Vargas put on the snap - on scanner but it did show that it was really slow on responding and also was fluctuating alot more than the other three oxygen sensors.
