Thanks for the article. I think i have read it before on here a while back. So are you saying that all is needed is a thorough cleaning of the inside of the motor? Do you just use a additive in the fuel to do this or is breaking down the motor necessary? My stock motor cracked a head at 486,000 kilos and I swapped in a motor with 140,000 miles on it. We made sore everything was nice and clean and did a timing belt/water pump and all the maintenance on it. I've cleaned out the maf sensor with the proper cleaner and cleaned out the throttle body (which caused me a lot of problems because the butterfly valve in there was worn out and it wasn't sealing good anymore after I cleaned the gunk out of the throttle body). Any advice would be great I've been fighting this code for months.

I was told running sea foam has the risk of plugging your cat? Is this true

Your scanner has to be misreading. B codes are for Body. Though our trucks do not have central body electronics or a CANBUS architecture that would have a control module to generate these codes. It just is not possible.

Looking at these, they could be SRS codes. Squib faults usually refer to the charges inside the airbag deployment units. Did anything involving those take palce?

Its just unusual, i didnt think the SRS codes for Tacomas were standardized to the B group going back to when our cars were produced.

Nope nothing happened to bags. I may have to pull the drivers bag and inspect further. I have googled the b codes and it's correct for Toyota air bags

If you want to have some fun, put 12v to the leads for the airbag. :D

Though seriously, im surprised that our trucks are generating B codes. You might want to go through the FSM wiring diagrams and check continuity on the harnesses that correspond to the driver airbags. From the SRS modules to the bag connectors. Be careful not to contact the airbag plugs to anything.

If it was cruise control related, it would still be in the P code group. P05xx are speed and idle control faults. P04xx are secondary emissions faults.

    Learned something new today.

I noticed I have a vacume line gone. It goes from the driver side of intake to throttle body. I looked at my 98 and noticed it plugs into throttle body. But my 03 doesn't have that. It has a little hose coming off of back of intake with screw in it

those empty lines i think are supposed to be for your charcoal canister, ported vacuum switches, and such. If not your IAC valve...............

Would it more than likely be my lower cat throwing this code?

i would need data to tell you. ill need to know your fuel trims and mass airflow info, both measured and calculated. at idle, cruising, under load, all while warmed up. and i guess throw in your raw O2 sensor readings.

the 420 code pretty much only refers to the downstream cat. unless there's an issue with the info im asking of you, your rear cat really is the issue.
