    Hi Folks,

P0500 code and intermittant cruise. Replaced cruise control switch on steering wheel, both speed sensors on side of transmission, and the brake light stop switch (on brake pedal).

After I reconnect battery and clear the codes, the cruise works about 15 minutes or so and then kicks off and flashes 5 times as well as kicking cruise off.

    ECM? Cluster?
speedo and everything else works fine. 2005 tacoma 2wd V6 4.0

    Any help is appreciated!
    thank you all

thanks, no i do not have a scan tool. i just messed up on something else, i was attempting to replace both the rear wheel speed sensors even though i wasn't sure that was problem (and probably wasn't). and the inch knob broke off inside the wheel assembly and is lodged in there. i tried drilling it out and it was not happening. it's now recessed inside a few MM's. Not sure what you mean by inch knob?

If the speedometer always works then the speed sensors are most likely fine as the instrument cluster get's the vehicle speed from the rear ABS sensors or Vehicle Speed Sensor depending on year model and transmission type (see the post I linked above) and is responsible for sending the vehicle speed to the PCM and other modules.

There is no relay, the cruise is handled entirely by PCM using the electronic throttle.
If the PCM is not getting a vehicle speed signal (you said you have a P0500) the cruise is not going to work.

thanks Dm93. Do you think sending the PCM in for bench testing would be a good next move?

Have you carried out the P0500 testing I layed out in the thread I posted above?
