ok i don’t know if this a red flag or not, but i just took the TB off and it looks like it’s getting so hot to the point where it’s melting the rubber from the intake tube…
is this normal or should i be concerned??

So I put the other IACV in (that came off a 4runner TB which I confirmed worked on my truck a few months ago with a idle around 750... didnt use it cause the throttle cable didnt line up with the TB). So i put the IAC on my TB that was bored by maxbore. Started the truck up and the Idle raised even higher to around 1500-2000 right now. I'm hoping that it's just in its learning faze and will go down after i drive it around for a couple days...

This is super annoying. If it doesn't come down, I'll just put the other aftermarket IAC in and live with a 1000k rpm untill i can get a used TB/IAC.

    Thoughts?

Another problem that I just noticed, is that my engine makes a weird noise at idle (sounds like a fan spinning), but it goes away at idle...wtf

Here are the numbers from my scanner, anyone see anything wrong with these?

One thing I know can cause a different idle each time, or an abrupt idle change as it warms, is a dirty or damaged MAF sensor. You cleaned the wire only with MAF cleaner, right? The reading is the same every time, or at least once it warms up? The spec on mine is fully warmed at idle it should be 3-5 g/sec, and at 2500 RPM it should be 13-18 g/sec.

yup the maf has been cleaned. and the idle stays the same (it doesn’t jump around) so i dont think that’s the issue.

also, i checked for leaks so ive ruled that out as well

MAF looks high for idle, but it says 1.6krpm so that's probably right. Fuel trims look fine. So air/fuel is fine, you're just ingesting a lot of air

So what does this mean? what steps should I take? Is this perhaps an issue with my Throttle body itself? It's been two days and a decent amount of driving and my idle hasnt lowered, so I'm gonna throw my other IAC back in, but thatll still only reduce it (hopefully) to 1krpm.

I'm really not sure. I doubt it would be anything with the throttle body unless air is sneaking around the butterfly valve/plate.
Only other things I can think of are your IAC is really stuck or the prior theory w/ your TPS bad

Also have you checked things like the O-ring on your dipstick, pcv hoses for cracks, or the seal on your oil filler cap? Air can be introduced into the engine from those places too.

Replaced the PCV valve, will check the seal on the oil filler and dipstick but I'd be surprised if that was it.

Does the throttle body melting the rubber intake concern you? I didnt notice this until I had it re-bored

Have you checked your AC idle up valve?

If that is stuck open, which is the typical failure mode, then you will see your idle about as high as you have it.

    here’s how to check

I think you'd have to confirm that it's actually melting due to temperature, and not a reaction to something you may have used to clean the throttle body, or residual oil from the rear head vent.

Awesome thanks, I have not checked it, but I'll look into it. Seams somewhat complex for someone like me since I don't know how or have the tools to check circuits and such. Also, AC seams to have no effect on my idle so would the AC idle up valve even matteR?

Not really. That's more likely due to oil deteriorating the rubber than actually melting
