only about 9 posts related to this error in the 1st Gen section but nothing about the part # or replacing it really.

so I had this code once before, last year. let it sit overnight and has never been an issue since.

well, drove 150 miles on Monday night. it sat overnight and when trying to go into work realized it wasn't shifting out of first. needless to say, frustrated. pulled up Torque and p0705 is listed.

I didn't see it because I have a steady code for exhaust leak that I just haven't fixed yet (no emissions needed where I am so :notsure: )

anyway, not sure why after sitting all night would cause it vs driving a short distance as was the case last time.

does anyone have a part for the PRNDL sensor? or a manual (scarce these days)

pretty sure this is the part from rockauto but since this is my DD kind of makes it hard to wait around for the part. don't mind if I have to spend a little extra to get it from a dealer.

    https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...lay,neutral+safety+switch+/+range+sensor,4584

I took off work tomorrow so I'm going to try and snake my arm up in there and see if I can disconnect the plug and check for any corrosion/damage that may be keeping this part from operating correctly.

weird thing is my reverse lights are actually still lit, dimly, but lit. and If i turn the key and put it in R they light up bright. so this leads me down the path of a bad sensor/shorted somewhere

    any other thoughts?

I never heard of this code before this so i looked it up. Odd code, anyway, I have attached the wiring for an 05 and in looking at it and reading the other posts... I am wondering if you were to find the junction block that the wires go to and remove the Reverse wire from it and see if the error clears. The replacing of the harness imho, seems kind of severe but given what labor rates are it makes sense. I have split lots of harneses to fix "issues"... its only wires and it is time consuming.

If the issue is internal to the P/N saftey switch that is easy to dianose too.

04 and 05 are very different. most things reference the 05 Tacoma/T4R out there. but they are the 4L and A750E trans.

I thought about checking the kick panel and looking for anything as well. weird thing is my driver's seat belt was soaked but it's in the rear

OK, update on this. It was one wire that caused the problem.

wiring diagram was appreciated but not sure if the 05 w/A750 is the same as 04 w/A340 ?

anywho, let's just say I feel a little smarter and dumber at the same time. It was something I wired in for my trailer harness as the Accessory (reverse lights) on a 7-pin plug. I had unplugged the trailer wiring harness to rule that out, but completely forgot about the separate circuit I had wired for the reverse lights to come on. It seems the relay went bad and was back-feeding the reverse circuit to the TCM and thus confusing the ECM into thinking I was in two separate gears.

Ugh, at least the part wasn't outrageous and it actually is a little more solid (resistance when moved) than the 15-year old part (moved pretty freely).

So, truck is up and running, back to normal.
